Nigeria has recorded a fresh 643 cases of the novel coronavirus disease, bringing the total infections in the country to 34,259.
The update by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) was made known via the twitter handle of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture @FIMCNigeria Wednesday night.
The agency said that 760 deaths have so far been recorded in the country.
The number of those so far discharged after testing negative to the virus is 13,999.
Lagos, the epicentre of the virus in the country, recorded the highest number with 230 cases, followed by Oyo-69, FCT-51, Edo-43, Osun-35, Rivers-30, Ebonyi-30, Kaduna-28, Ogun-27, Ondo-23, Plateau-20, Benue-17, Enugu-16 and Imo-10. Other states with new infections are: Delta-6, Kano-4, Nasarawa-2, Kebbi-1 and Ekiti-1.
As of July 15, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the African continent stood at 13,519. There are 612,586 confirmed infections and 307,069 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
Nearly 13.5 million people around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and more than 582,000 have died, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
