Nigerian Army set to unveil Buratai Polo Club

One of Nigeria’s frontline promoters of the noble game of polo, the Nigerian Army is set to further deepen its enduring relationship with the noble game with the commissioning of the Infantry Polo Ground in Jaji, Kaduna State.

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar is expected to perform the unveiling ceremony as a major highlight of a week-long of an elaborate reunion event of all infantry soldiers of the Nigerian Army, both serving and retired, in Jaji, Kaduna State between november10 and 14.

It was gathered that a polo tournament that will stake the Chief of Army Staff Cup as the biggest prize has been packaged as one of the major attraction to the historic Infantry reunion.

Nigeria’s Polo Ambassador and national polo team coach, Dawule Baba, confirmed that the grand polo fiesta would pitch four ambitious teams the Nigerian Army team that just won the EL-Amin Cup at the just concluded 2021 Kaduna International Polo Tournament as the team to beat.

Dawule listed the three other teams dominated by established civilian players in the country to include, Atiku Abubakar’s Badako/Zaz that debuted in the 2021 Georgian Cup series, and Suleiman Sani Bello’s Sublime team that secured a back-to back victory in the Emir of Katsina Cup in Kaduna last week. And Atiku Stable from Zaria.

Meanwhile, the Army polo that has laid  claim to the COAS Cup in Jaji, has named a strong squad for the Jaji warfare  and the list include the EL-Amin Cup Most Valuable Player, Col. Bello Yusuf, Major Mohammed ‐1, Col Y Bello 0, Lado Aliyu, and defense  maestro General Laka,.

Elated Chairman of Nigerian Army Polo Association (NAPA), General Msa Aliyu, who is still celebrating the victorious outing of the Army team during the 2021 Kaduna polo festival, told the NationSport that the commissioning of the Tukur Yusuf Buratai Polo Club Jaji is a further confirmation of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the promotion of polo.

Aliyu  expressed  delight that the completion and commissioning of  the Jaji polo ground will  give the soldiers and Nigerian youths a good opportunity harness their  talents to the fullest and participate fully in the game that as remain  the favourites sport of the military for 117 years now.
