Niran Adedokun will headline a book reading event at Patabah Books, Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping Mall, Surulere, Lagos today, that is, on Saturday, October 20. The Lagos-based public relations consultant, lawyer and writer will be reading from his book Ladies Calling the Shots on November 13.
To be moderated by the broadcast journalist, Funmi Akinsola, it takes place from 2pm to 5pm.
The book chronicles the exploits of 16 female film and television directors in Nigeria. It profiles these directors right from their early days through their educational career and eventual choice of filmmaking.
The writer, one of the early reporters of the home video revolution now popular the world over as Nollywood, said the book was inspired by the irrepressible spirit of ladies who have forged on in this male dominated area of endeavour in spite of all the challenges that they face.
The book zeroes in on the relatively obscure nature of the director’s role in the filmmaking process and the need to celebrate the women who are making Nigeria proud on this front. It features female directors like Lola Fani Kayode, the late Amaka Igwe, Omoni Oboli, Amaka Igwe, Stephanie Okereke-Linus, Blessing Egbe, amongst others.
