The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared the starting of an indefinite warning strike to press the Buhari administration to adopt a new minimum wage for workers. The strike will start Wednesday morning. Its sister labour group, the Trade Union Congress, had earlier on Tuesday announced it would begin strike from the early hours of Thursday, following the federal government’s failure to honour its ultimatum on the new minimum wage. Lawyer who allegedly forged court judgment to face prosecution (Punch)
The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Opeyemi Oke, on Tuesday vowed to prosecute Mr Edward Oseghale, a lawyer, who was nabbed by the police on the premises of the Surulere Magistrates’ Court for allegedly forging a court judgment. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Oseghale allegedly forged a judgment purportedly given by Mrs Toluwalase Abayomi, the magistrate of Court 4, Surulere Magistrates’ Court. Read more
INEC clarifies ‘destruction’ of result in Ayedaade council (Guardian)
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified the controversy surrounding the election result of Ayedaade Local Government Area.In a statement, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Olusegun Agbaje, insisted that the result sheet destroyed by Mutiu Salawu, the electoral officer for Ayedaade, contained the wrong figure. According to Agbaje, the electoral officer for Ayedaade, Mrs. Aderinoye Olukemi Alice, following the information she received from the Local Government Security Chief (LGSC) that there was an error on the Form EC 60 (E) INEC Publication of Result of Poll Poster pasted at the local government collation centre at St. Patrick Grammar School, Gbongan and after crosschecking the result sheet for the collation form EC 8C to confirm the information, called her staff, Mutiu Salawu, to remove the pasted EC 80 (E) poster with error and replace it with the correct one. Gov tickets: APC NWC okays direct primaries for Ogun, Lagos, Kano, Imo, Akwa Ibom (Punch)
The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday released its approved mode of primaries for 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for Saturday’s governorship primaries. Peterside, who made this call during the visit of a joint team from the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in Lagos, said: “We must be conscious of our international image because people who do business in our ports have alternatives. 2019: Soldiers supporting political parties to face court martial, says Buratai (Punch)
The Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, has said that a special court martial has been established to try soldiers who are found to be supporting political parties ahead of the 2019 general elections. Buratai said on Tuesday that the military division and field commanders must, therefore, warn officers and soldiers under them not to be sympathetic to any political party or ethnic group ahead of the election. Man remanded for defiling neighbour’s four-year-old daughter (Guardian)
The police yesterday told an Ogba Chief Magistrates Court in Lagos how a 35-year-old man, Festus Ekuku, defiled his neighbour’s four-year-old daughter. The prosecutor, Mr. Christopher John, told the court to proffer stiff punishment on the accused, insisting that he lured the girl to his house where he defiled her. He said the incident occurred at Okoson Street in Afromedia, Okokomaiko area of Lagos, where they live, adding that the accused lured victim into his apartment, pulled down her pant, forcefully penetrated her and in the process injured her private part. He said the victim’s mother uncovered the evil act against her child when she wanted to bathe her. Read more
