Nigeria LNG (NLNG) Limited has issued a statement refuting recent media reports about a Tax Appeal Tribunal order.
The company, in a statement by its General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Andy Odeh, clarified that its $27.5 million payment to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for a 2016 Corporate Income Tax dispute was the result of a voluntary, out-of-court settlement, not a tribunal mandate.
NLNG emphasised that the settlement was reached amicably between the parties, without prejudice to their respective legal positions. The Tax Appeal Tribunal merely adopted this agreement as a consent judgement, contrary to reports suggesting it had ordered the payment.
Odeh stressed the company’s commitment to responsible corporate citizenship and compliance with Nigerian laws. He stated that NLNG consistently operates in line with its vision of being “a globally competitive LNG company helping to build a better Nigeria.”
