Nomadic Art Gallery presents ‘Ekomo’ Exhibition with Minika Ohobu and Hakeem Salaam

Nomadic Art Gallery (NAG) located at 22 Ademola Adetokunbo, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, will on March 23 to April 13, 2024, host a captivating exhibition titled “Ekomo,” featuring works by Minika Ohobu and Hakeem Salaam.

This unique showcase, according to a statement, delves deep into Africa’s rich musical heritage, drawing inspiration from a myriad of traditional instruments like drums and harps, which serve as bridges between earthly and spiritual realms.

Named after the Efik word for drum, “Ekomo” promises to be a sensory journey celebrating the diverse sounds of Africa, from the pulsating rhythms of Juju and Afrobeat to the melodious tunes of Highlife and beyond. The exhibition is also a homage to the continent’s cultural wealth, resonating with soul-stirring melodies that have transcended borders.

“This exhibition celebrates the essence of Nomadic’s beliefs as the Afrobeat of art with the idea to see art travel,” said the statement. “It highlights African art’s global journey, showcasing the deep ties between cultures”.

Minika Ohobu, from Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria, infuses her artwork with vibrant colours and bold statements, reflecting her deep-rooted African heritage and experience in the beauty sector. On the other hand, Hakeem Salaam, a veteran photographer with decades of experience and Canon Influencer, brings his keen eye and global perspective to capture moments that speak volumes about Africa’s musical journey.

“Ekomo” weaves together Minika and Hakeem’s passion for showcasing African music’s global influence and transcends musical genres like jazz, blues, salsa and hip hop, emphasising the universal appeal of African rhythms that resonate with people worldwide.
