The Anguwan Lambu Division of the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended two individuals suspected to be part of the notorious ‘One Chance’ armed robbery gang.
The arrested duo, identified as Chibuieze Orji and Jibrin Mohammed, allegedly operated along the Akwanga-Keffi-Abuja expressway, preying on unsuspecting passengers.
According to preliminary investigations as stated by DSP Nansel Ramhan in a press release sent to reporters on Tuesday explained that the modus operandi of the gang involved masquerading as taxi drivers, luring passengers into their vehicle, and then robbing them of their possessions before abandoning them at remote locations.
The suspects, both seasoned criminals, confessed to a decade-long spree of robberies, indicating a deeply entrenched criminal operation.
“We have been operating for over 10 years and robbed a lot of people,” confessed one of the suspects, shedding light on the scale of their criminal activities. He added that they were recently released from Shendam prison in Plateau State, where they served time for similar offenses
“Items seized from the suspects include a Toyota Carina II vehicle bearing the registration number Abuja CO 212 ABC, as well as weapons including an axe and a hammer, presumably used to intimidate their victims.”
Commissioner of Police CP Umar Shehu Nadada has emphasized the resolve of the force to bring the perpetrators to justice, stating, “The suspects will be charged to court for prosecution upon conclusion of investigation.” He further reassured the public of the police’s unwavering commitment to combating crime in the state and urged for continued collaboration from the community.
“This arrest demonstrates our dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” asserted CP Nadada. (Sun)
