After a decade of legal battles, retired workers of the defunct New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN) are still awaiting the payment of their gratuities and pensions, with the death toll among them now reaching 107.
The Joint Union of New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN) retirees confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that another beneficiary, Mr. Zakka Bitiyong of the Commercial Printing Department and Radio Room, passed away on March 11, 2025, further worsening the crisis.

Ackson’s assurance came in response to Natasha’s appeal for intervention by the IPU and the United Nations over what she termed as an unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate.

Oando PLC, Nigeria’s leading indigenous energy group, has emerged as the preferred bidder for the lease of the Guaracara Refining Company Limited (GRC)’s refinery assets from Trinidad Petroleum Holdings Ltd (TPHL).
The award was announced by the Minister for Energy of Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday February 27, 2025, in a communication to its trading subsidiary, Oando Trading.

DRC faces setback in fight against mpox amid ongoing fighting in east (AfricaNews)
Six weeks after Rwanda-backed rebels captured two major cities in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the region is facing a setback in its fight against the mpox outbreak.
The DRC has the highest burden of the virus with the epicentre in the east.

Passengers who were freed from a train seized by armed militants have spoken of “doomsday scenes” that unfolded on board the Jaffar Express in Pakistan’s Balochistan province.
“We held our breath throughout the firing, not knowing what would happen next,” Ishaq Noor, who was one of those on board, told the BBC.
He was one of more than 400 passengers travelling from Quetta to Peshawar on Tuesday when the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) attacked and took a number hostage. The train driver was among several reported injured. Read more

EU announces $28b in countermeasures to Trump’s steel tariffs (ABC)
The European Union responded on Wednesday to the Trump administration’s metals tariffs, saying member states would place countermeasures on some 26 billion euros, or about $28 billion, worth of U.S. goods.
The U.S. at midnight began imposing 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports from all trading partners, with no exceptions or exemptions, the White House said.
