Kenneth Omeruo has assured Nigerians that the Super Eagles will try to win their final Group A match against Guinea-Bissau on Monday.
The central defender stated this during the press conference ahead of Nigeria’s match against the lowly-ranked nation yet to register a point in Ivory Coast.
The AFCON 2023 tournament has had a couple of upsets and less fancied nations taking points off their more illustrious opponents, and Nigeria has been a victim against Equatorial Guinea who scored first in the 1-1 draw.
With this in mind, Omeruo who has 61 caps for the Super Eagles stated that the match against Equatorial Guinea, their West African neighbour who defeated Nigeria in Abuja in the AFCON qualifiers, will be taken seriously.
“It is going to be an interesting game because they are a team we are familiar with. Some people said it was going to be an easy game. There is no easy game now, especially in this tournament. A lot of the big teams are really struggling, that goes to show how improved the African teams are.”
The Kasimpasa defender, however, declared Nigeria’s readiness to win the match on Monday and advance to the latter stages of the competition.
The Super Eagles are second in Group A with four points- same as table-topping Equatorial Guinea- but have an inferior goals difference.
The match against Guinea-Bissau will be Nigeria’s 100th AFCON game, and will be played at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny stadium in Abidjan. (DailyTrust)
