It has been five days – 91 hours to be precise – since Bright Michael Ude began the quest to get his name listed on the Longest Dance World Record. When thisislagos.ng got to the ground floor of the Maryland Mall on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 13, the dancer had already taken his 20 minutes break after four hours of dancing non-stop and returned to the task at hand. He was indeed in high spirits and even when the music stopped for about three minutes, it did not deter him from pursuing his goal, as he kept on dancing until the DJ restored the music.
Sanchez, a fitness instructor, who also dances and has been working with Ude since they met on social media last year, told thisislagos.ng in an interview that Ude has been dancing since he was little.
“We are friends and you know, fitness trainer and dancing go together and we have been working together for a while,” he said.
Talking about Ude’s motivation he said, “He likes dancing a lot. Also, he dances with Kaffy and since Kaffy has done it, he also wants to attempt it”.
He stated further that Kaffy, who holds the record for World’s Longest Dance Party, is in support of the project and will be around on Wednesday, March 14. He however did not know the exact time she would be at the mall to wish Ude well.
“He has been dancing since his school days and has been on Olamide’s ‘Science Student’ video. He has also danced together with Tiwa Savage at the Glo African football awards in Ghana. He has danced on several music videos, too,” Sanchez said.
Techno and Maryland Mall are sponsoring the venture, which is why the space is being used. La Solace, which is responsible for the massage the dancer gets when he takes a break, is also a sponsor. Ude is expected to stop dancing on Saturday, March 17. Stay with thisislagos.ng for more updates.
