Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), Friday, expressed dismay over the conduct of former Edo State governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, saying it is unacceptable and another example of the growing trend of unruly passenger behaviour experienced by domestic carriers.

Spokesperson for the AON, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, also expressed sadness that two days after the incident, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, was yet to reveal what truly happened.

Okonkwo spoke as the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, directed relevant aviation agencies to investigate the dispute. Read more 

Appeal Court dismisses APC’s bid to revive sacked Osun LG chairmen’s case (Tribune)

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure has struck out a request by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to relist its appeal against the 2022 Federal High Court judgment that nullified local government elections held in Osun State.

In a unanimous decision delivered virtually on Friday and read by Justice Peter Obiorah, the court declared that the appeal lacked merit, emphasising that APC’s failure to act promptly on its legal rights amounted to a self-inflicted injury.

“It is a case of volenti non fit injuria—they cannot complain of harm they brought upon themselves. Equity aids the vigilant, not the indolent,” the court ruled. Read more 

First commercial flight lands in Ebonyi airport (Sun)

First commercial flight t has landed in Wilberforce Chuba Okadigbo airport, Ebonyi State.

The aircraft-United Nigeria Airlines with registration 5N-8WV landed at the airport at exactly 10:30am on Friday with passengers.

Canada returnee arrested for assaulting KAI personnel in Lagos (Guardian)

The Lagos State Government has announced the arrest of a Canada returnee, Mr Morufudeen Idowu, for assaulting a personnel of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, otherwise known as KAI.

In a terse statement on Friday, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the 52-year-old resisted arrest after crossing the expressway in the Ojota area of the state.

“He has been taken into custody at Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps office in Oshodi, and will be prosecuted in accordance with the relevant Laws of the state,” Wahab posted on X. Read more

Japan instructs airlines to check Boeing 787s after Air India crash (JapanToday)

Japan’s transport ministry said Friday it has instructed Japanese airlines operating Boeing 787s to inspect them following the fatal crash of an Air India 787-8.

In the instruction dated Thursday, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism called on All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines and JAL’s low-cost subsidiary Zipair Tokyo to check the engines and airframes of the planes. It will not suspend their use, it said.

“We will take necessary measures by collecting information and considering the development of investigations” by Indian authorities, transport minister Hiromasa Nakano said at a press conference. Read more

Tunisian politician Abir Moussi has been sentenced to two years in prison after criticising the legislative electoral process.

She was charged with “attempting to change the form of government,” “inciting violence,” and “attacking with the aim of provoking disorder” after she tried to submit an appeal against presidential decrees ahead of local elections.
