Osinbajo orders 72-hour operation to clear Apapa gridlock (Punch)
Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has ordered a 72-hour joint operation to clear the gridlock around the Apapa Expressway caused by stationary trailers.
The situation had made movement in and around the axis difficult for many road users in recent days.
Osinbajo, who made an unscheduled visit to the area on Friday to assess the situation, directed relevant government agencies to immediately embark on the decongestion of the popular road, leading to the Apapa seaport. Read more
Oseni, others emerge newly elected Lagos NMA executives (NewTelegraph)
New executive officers been elected by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Lagos State Chapter, with Dr. Saliu Oseni, a consultant general surgeon at the Ikorudu General Hospital emerging as the Chairman to steer the ship of the organisation for the next two years.
The immediate past Secretary of the NMA in Lagos State, Dr. Sunday Adesegun Luro told the New Telegraph that 810 medical doctors participated in the elections, which held during the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi Lagos (NOHIL) on Thursday. Son kills mother over N20,000 pocket money, flees (Punch)
A 27-year-old man, Emmanuel Eghaghe, is on the run after he beat his mother to death for allegedly refusing to give him a sum of N20,000.
Emmanuel had reportedly visited the 61-year-old woman at her shop on Jinadu Street, Ajangbadi, Lagos State, on July 6, 2018.
Saturday PUNCH learnt that Emmanuel told his mother, Helen, that he needed the sum for pocket money. Read more

Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School are the male champions of GTBank- Lagos State Principals Cup Season 9 while Isale Eko Senior Grammar School, Lagos Island won the girls’ category. Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School defeated Elepe Community Senior High School 2-1 in the final of the tournament played at the Agege Township Stadium on Thursday.

Agent in court for allegedly defrauding plumber seeking Dubai visa (Punch)
A travel agent, Ajayi Philip, is standing trial before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, for allegedly defrauding a plumber seeking a two-year visa to enable him to work in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Philip was accused of collecting a sum of N650,000 from the complainant, Eniola Rasaq without keeping to the agreement. Instead, Philip reportedly procured a three-month visiting visa for the plumber. Read more

Special Adviser to Governor Akinunmi Ambode on the Cleaner Lagos Initiative, CLI, Engr. Adebola Shabi gave the clarification in a chat with our correspondent on the development.
Shabi, blamed the seemingly resurgence of refuse across the state on the persistent rainfall which he said had slowed down operation. According to him, “We have embarked on advocacy and sensitization of the public on the need for cleaner environment. We are having a challenge presently because we are in the rainy season. This is compounded with the attitude and habit of our people dumping waste in the drainage and on median and roads whenever it rains”. Read more
Conflicting death figures in Lagos train crash (Guardian)
It was pandemonium yesterday morning following a crash involving a tricycle (Keke Napep), a commercial bus (danfo) and a train, which left two people dead and several others badly injured at the railway crossing, linking Iju Road, NITEL bus stop, Pen Cinema, Agege Lagos.
Speaking with The Guardian, General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Adesina Tiamiyu confirmed that the accident occurred at a few minutes to 9am. Read more

Fear has gripped residents of Ilasamaja area of Lagos State following a renewed cult war.
Three persons, including a physically-challenged person, were alleged to have been caught in the middle of the ongoing war and slaughtered.
Residents disclosed that the cult war had been going for days and later snow balled and spread into different streets. Read more

Oyetola wins Osun APC governorship primary (Guardian)
Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola has been declared the winner of the Osun All Progressives Congress governorship primary, ahead of the Sept. 22 election in the state.
In the direct primary which held today, he polled 127,017 votes as against House of Representatives deputy speaker Yusuf Lasun who scored 21,000. Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly Nojeem Salaam came third.
Oyetola, a participant in the June 12 struggle, has been Gov Aregbesola’s chief of staff since 2010. Read more

The 17 victims who died when a tour boat sank in a Missouri lake on Thursday included nine members of one family, officials in the US state say.
A surviving relative told US media that the boat’s captain had told the 31 passengers not to put on life jackets.
