The management of a school, Edwards Private School in Agege, Lagos State, and the Agege Local Government Area, are currently locked in a heated argument over the demolition of the school’s 30-year-old three-storey building.
While the school insists that it is the rightful owner of the building and the land where it is located and accused the council authority of illegal demolition, the council however defended its decision to demolish the building due to lack of title to the property.

Nigeria@64: Lagos monarch calls for full autonomy for local councils (Nation)
The traditional ruler of Lagos Mainland Local Government, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye, has called on the federal and state governments to grant full autonomy to local council authorities in governance and administration at the community level.
He noted that financial autonomy alone is insufficient for local councils.
According to Kalejaiye, it is essential to give local government councils the constitutional freedom to function and fulfill all their responsibilities under the residual list, without interference from state governments. Read more

Nandap’s appointment was announced during the recent ECOWAS Heads of Immigration Forum held in Banjul, Gambia. The forum, which brought together representatives from 13 member states—excluding Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—focused on addressing migration and mobility challenges within the region.

TV and Broadway star Gavin Creel has died from a “rare and aggressive” cancer at the age of 48, his publicist Matt Polk has announced.
Creel was best known as a stage star in shows such as Hello Dolly! opposite Bette Midler, which earned him a Tony award in 2017.
He played Cornelius Hackl opposite Midler in the titular role.

NBA Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo has died from brain cancer at the age of 58.
The eight-time NBA All-Star, who retired in 2009, spent 18 years playing in the league for the Denver Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks and Houston Rockets.
Mutombo began treatment for a brain tumour in October 2022.
