In a harrowing incident in Lagos, passengers narrowly escaped a fatal tragedy when a container-laden truck collided with a commercial bus bearing the number plate FKJ 366 XT.
The accident took place in the outer Marina area of the state around 7 a.m. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) promptly responded to the scene, rescuing the injured victims.
According to Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, the accident was caused by over-speeding, resulting in a brake failure. Quick action by LASTMA personnel and the support of compassionate road users helped in freeing the passengers trapped in the commercial bus.
Policemen from the Lion Building, led by the Divisional Crime Officer, provided security during the rescue operations. Ashafa Moyosore (Zebra 1, Olowu) led the rescue effort, ensuring that all passengers, including the driver, were safely transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, issued a caution to the public, especially commercial bus drivers, urging them to exercise restraint and adhere to speed limits while navigating Lagos roads, particularly during the ember months.
