Manchester United star Phil Jones is set for crunch talks with the club in December to discuss his future at Old Trafford, Metro.co.uk understands.
The 26-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and United are yet to trigger a 12-month extension clause in his existing deal, despite intimating that they were ready to do so.
Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the former Blackburn Rovers star but Jones’ injury problems have limited him to 26 & 28 appearances in the 55-year-old’s two full seasons at the club.
Jones made his first team return in a 1-0 win against Young Boys on Tuesday and admitted afterwards that he has to prove his long-term fitness to Mourinho.
The club understandably want to protect their £17million investment in Jones and Metro.co.uk understands the club will sit down with the defender’s representatives before the New Year. Read more
