A physically challenged graduate of the Lagos State University, Agosu Fagla, has written an open letter to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, seeking his help for a job.
The university graduate caught the attention of people when he made a billboard with the inscription: “I need a job.”
Fagla then followed it up by standing at the gate of the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

FG extends NIN-SIM linkage till December as NIMC issues 66m identification numbers (Guardian)
The Federal Government has again extended the NIN-SIM enrolment exercise till the end of the year.
This is even as the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has so far issued 66 million unique NIN.
The last extension was supposed to end tomorrow (October 31), but in a statement signed by both the Director of Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Ike Adinde and Head of Corporate Communications, NIMC, Kayode Adegoke, yesterday informed that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, has approved an extension of the exercise till the end of the year.
The statement reads: “The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) has conveyed the approval of the Federal Government to extend the deadline for the National Identity Number (NIN)-Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) data verification. Citizens and legal residents are urged to complete the process before the end of the year 2021. Read more
Tanker crushes two to death on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Punch)
Two persons were killed while two others sustained injuries on Saturday in an accident involving an articulated vehicle and a Toyota Hiace Bus on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesman of Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta.
Akinbiyi said that the accident happened at 6am on the Ogun State section of the expressway.
He attributed the accident to brake failure in the truck and loss of control by the driver who rammed into the commercial bus that was ahead of him. Read more
IPOB Militants Gunned Down In Battle With Soldiers (DailyTrust)
Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed at least four members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) while one of its personnel lost his life.
This is coming a week to the governorship election in Anambra.
According to the Army, the deceased gunmen, who were killed at Nnobi Junction, Idemili South Local Government Area of the State, had engaged the troops of 82 Division conducting Exercise GOLDEN DAWN on Friday in a fierce gun battle before they were overpowered.
Army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, who disclosed this on Saturday in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, explained that troops’ actions followed the assailants’ armed attack on personnel of security agencies deployed at Ekwulobia Round About in Aguata Local Government Area of the State. Youths hail Mimiko’s return to PDP, pledge support (Tribune)
Following the return of the former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a former youth leader, Hon. Gbenga Ayenuro, on Saturday, described the steps as a bold move to redirect the compass for better politics in the country.
Ayenuro who commended Mimiko and other stakeholders for dumping the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) for PDP, described the development as a huge plus for the PDP family and a major step in the reconciliation and unity the party is building.

Fresh facts have emerged to the effect that the raid carried out on the home of Supreme Court Justice Mary Odili by the joint Panel Recovery Unit of the Federal Ministry of Justice followed a petition by a whistleblower, Aliyu Umar.
Armed with a warrant issued by the hand of an Abuja Chief Magistrate, Emmanuel Iyana on October 29, the panel, which comprises the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Nigeria Police Force and the Ministry of Justice, stormed the No. 9, Imo Street, Maitama, Abuja.
In the said petition, Umar, claimed to have observed illegal activities going on at the home.
Umar’s affidavit dated October 13, 2021, read in part, “I have observed some illegal activities going on in those houses within Abuja are illegal and hereby report the said matter to the law enforcement agency. Read more
Kaduna: Despite telecom shutdown, bandits abduct 9, demand N50m (DailyTrust)
Suspected armed bandits have abducted nine people from Dangilmi village under Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Daily Trust report.
Daily Trust Sunday gathered that the incident happened around 5: 30-6pm closed to Jakaranda which is about 500 meters away from bethel Baptist School were bandits abducted 121 students on 5 July,2021.
The Christian Association of Nigeria ( CAN), Kaduna chapter Chairman, Reverend John Hayab, who confirmed the incident said the bandits called demanding for N50 million as ransom.

Anambra Guber: INEC rules out election in 86 polling units (Independent)
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that election materials would not be deployed in 86 polling units out of the total 5,720 polling units in the State for the November 6 Governorship Election in Anambra State.
INEC Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu stated this while addressing a special consultative meeting of Chairmen and leaders of political parties held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
He said the affected polling units were part of the 1,112 new units created when INEC converted some voting points into polling units, noting that the units also had no voters from the recent Continues Voters Registration CVR exercise.
“The Anambra Governorship election will be the first that voting is taking place in polling units since the recent successful conversion of voting points arising from the expansion of voter access to polling units in Nigeria. An additional 1,112 polling units were established in Anambra State in addition to the existing 4,608 locations. This brings the total number of polling units in the State to 5,720. Read more
Indian PM Narendra Modi invites Pope for visit (BBC)
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Pope Francis to visit his country – a significant turnaround after negotiations for a papal visit to India collapsed in 2017.
The invitation came after Mr Modi shared images of his first private meeting with the Pope at the Vatican.
The Indian prime minister is attending G20 summit of major world economies being held in Rome.

Syria says Israel fired missiles towards Damascus suburbs (Aljazeera)
Missiles fired from Israel towards suburbs of the capital, Damascus, have been intercepted by Syria’s air defences, state media reported.
According to a military statement by the Syrian air defences, the missiles targeted sites in countryside around Damascus and destroyed some of them, state media SANA said.
Two soldiers were injured and some material losses occurred, the statement added.
“The Israeli enemy fired a salvo of surface-to-surface missiles from northern occupied Palestine targeting positions near Damascus,” SANA said, quoting an unnamed military official. Read more

The FDNY shut down 26 firehouses across the Big Apple as of 7:30 a.m. Saturday because of staff shortages caused by the vaccination mandate, The Post has learned.
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, a Republican who represents Staten Island and Brooklyn, tweeted Saturday that five of the companies were in her district — and said it’s Hizzoner who could have blood on his hands.
“If someone dies due to a slower emergency response, it’s on Bill de Blasio and his overreaching mandates. I hope this fool fixes it ASAP!” she tweeted.
The shuttered companies included Engine 55 in Lower Manhattan, Engine 234 in Crown Heights, Engine 231 in Brownsville, Ladder 128 in Long Island City and Engine 158 and Ladder 78 in Richmond on Staten Island, according to an FDNY alert sent Saturday morning. Read more
Stansted Airport evacuated after ‘suspicious package’ found in security area (Metro)
London Stansted Airport has been partially evacuated following the discovery of a suspicious package.
Details of the incident remains scarce but at just before 2pm on Saturday, the airport confirmed that an evacuation was under way.
Essex Police added that military explosive experts were being drafted in to assess the package.

G20: World leaders agree to historic corporate tax deal (BBC)
Leaders of the world’s 20 major economies have approved a global agreement that will see the profits of large businesses taxed at least 15%.
It follows concern that multinational companies are re-routing their profits through low tax jurisdictions.
The pact was agreed by all the leaders attending the G20 summit in Rome.
Climate change and Covid are also on the agenda of the summit, which is bringing most leaders together face to face since the start of the pandemic. Read more

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Saturday that Queen Elizabeth II was “on very good form” during their weekly conversation earlier this week. His comment comes a day after Buckingham Palace said the 95-year-old monarch has been told to rest by doctors for another two weeks.
“I spoke to Her Majesty as I do every week as part of my job and she was on very good form,” Johnson told ITV News on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Rome.
As prime minister, Johnson has a weekly audience with the queen. The most recent one took place virtually on Wednesday.
“She has been told by her doctors that she has got to rest and I think we have got to respect that and understand that and everybody wishes her all the very best,” Johnson said. Read more

24 Teams comprising of over two hundred Badminton players from the North West zone of the country have converge in Kaduna for the maiden edition of the badminton championship.
The 3-day championship which started at the Badminton hall of Federal college of Education (FCE) Zaria, Kaduna State is expected to see the best of badminton play.
Chairman Kaduna state badminton association who doubles as the North west representative Alhaji Mohammed Maina speaking to sports writers during the opening ceremony of the Championship maintained that he put up the championship to improve the game of badminton in the zone.
