Police arrest 2 for allegedly robbing skitmaker (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command said it arrested two suspects, Sunday Osagie and Ayodele Adeolu, for allegedly robbing a skitmaker, Ekwutousi Philo.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Rapid Response Squad unit of the Lagos State Police Command and shared on its Facebook page on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Philo had made a video which has since gone viral on October 20, alleging that she was robbed by some policemen in the Alapere area of Ketu, Lagos State. Read more

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday in Abuja urged members of his cabinet to work assiduously towards achieving the mandate of their ministries or be ready to leave the government.
Tinubu stated this in his address at the three-day 2023 Cabinet Retreat for Ministers, Presidential Aides, Permanent Secretaries and Top government functionaries, with the theme: “Delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

The Rivers State Police Command has explained how the attack on the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, during a protest at the state’s House of Assembly complex in Port Harcourt on Monday occurred.
The command described the attack as ‘not deliberate’, adding that the intention behind the water cannons and tear gassing was to disperse the protesters and to ensure the protection and safety of the governor from arsonists who were culpable of causing mayhem on the premises.
In a statement by the spokesperson for the state’s command, Grace Iringe-Koko, on Wednesday, it read, “Following the receipt of credible intelligence on the intention of some armed group of persons to cause mayhem in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, particularly at the State House of Assembly on Monday, October 30, and recalling the previous case of arson on the State House of Assembly a day prior which is currently being investigated, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations immediately deployed armed police operatives which he personally supervised in order to intercept the ‘hoodlums’ and ensure the protection of lives and properties within the State House of Assembly facility and its environ. Benue North-East: Appeal Court sacks Suswam, affirms Udende’s victory (Channels)
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the election of Senator Emmanuel Udende as the validly elected Senator for the Benue North-East senatorial district.
Consequently, a three-member panel of the appellate Court, led by Justice Abimbola Adejumo, set aside the judgment of the State National Assembly Election Tribunal that nullified his election in favour of former Senator Gabriel Suswam of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The court unanimously said it was satisfied that Suswam was not the valid winner of the senatorial election that was held in Benue North-East on February 25. Read more
NLC president Ajaero arrested (Guardian)
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has been arrested in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Ajaero was picked up from the NLC State Council Secretariat by heavily armed policemen and taken to an unknown destination.
The arrest comes days after the National Industrial Court restrained the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) from carrying out any protest in the state. Read more
Tinubu seeks Senate’s approval to borrow $7.8bn, €100m (DailyTrust)
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve a request to borrow $7.8billion and €100 million as part of the 2022 – 2024 borrowing plan of the Federal Government.
The president made the request in a letter read by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary session.
Tinubu said the Federal Executive Council under former President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the loan facility on May 15, 2023 to finance infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, insecurity and other sectors. Read more

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed arresting the National Youth Council (NYCN), Chairman in the state, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo alongside 122 pro-Fubara protesters at the main gate of the Government House, Port Harcourt.
The youths who were angry at the impeachment attempt on Governor Siminalayi Fubara by some lawmakers at the state assembly had mobilized themselves at the gate of the Rivers State Government House to express their solidarity with the Governor.
The Police accused the protesting youths who were arrested of forcibly entering and vandalizing properties at the official residence of Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly at Forces Avenue, Old GRA, Port Harcourt. Read more

Uganda denounces Washington’s exclusion from trade agreement (AfricaNews)
The Ugandan government on Wednesday slammed the United States’ announcement that it would withdraw the country from a trade agreement because of human rights violations, saying the move would hurt its farmers and small businesses.
Washington announced this week that it was excluding Uganda, along with the Central African Republic, Gabon and Niger, from the list of sub-Saharan African countries benefiting from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) from January 2024.
This Act, which dates back to 2000, allows African countries to export a wide range of products to the United States duty-free. This preferential trade treatment is, however, subject to a series of conditions in terms of political pluralism, respect for human rights and the rule of law, and the fight against corruption. “The Heart of Rock and Roll”, a new musical inspired by the music of Huey Lewis and The News, will open on Broadway at the James Earl Jones Theatre in spring 2024.
Previews for the production will begin March 29, 2024, with opening night set for April 22. The musical previously enjoyed an industry workshop in July, following a 2018 production at San Diego’s Old Globe.

The Country Music Association has announced a second round of performers for the 2023 CMA Awards.
The 57th annual ceremony will take place Nov. 8 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and air at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.

1st foreigners leave Gaza through Rafah border crossing into Egypt (CBS)
Hundreds of foreign passport holders and the wounded trapped in Gaza started leaving the war-torn territory Wednesday as the Rafah border crossing to Egypt opened to them for the first time since the October 7th Hamas attacks on Israel.
Footage showed the gate of the crossing on the Palestinian side of the border being opened Wednesday morning as people began to cross into Egypt for the first time since the war began.
Convoys of desperately needed aid have previously passed between Egypt and Gaza but no people had been allowed through the Rafah crossing up until now. Read more

The initial squads have been announced for the first senior women’s internationals to be played in Africa. Mouktar Mohammed, the Chairman, FCT Football Association has said that Victor Osimhen deserves to win the African Player of the Year award 2023.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Osimhen was among 30 players listed for the top prize; CAF African Player of the Year 2023 announced by CAF on Wednesday.

A coroner has ruled the death of Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton was ‘accidental’ after an inquest heard he suffered a fall at a care home, it was confirmed today.
The footballing icon – one of the best ever to have played the game – died at the age of 86 on October 21, prompting tributes from the sporting world across the globe.
The news came after Manchester United confirmed a memorial service for Sir Bobby will be held at Manchester Cathedral on Monday, November 13, at 2pm. A procession to the cathedral will also pass by Old Trafford where fans will be able to say a final farewell. Read more

The Rock has been called out by thousands of fans after wearing a fake Manchester United shirt when dressing up as David Beckham for Halloween.
Real name Dwayne Johnson, The Rock posted pictures to his social media pages of him wearing Beckham 7 jersey, but fans were quick to notice it was a fake shirt due to a very obvious tell. The shirt in question didn’t have an Adidas logo printed on the front, meaning it isn’t an official piece of club merchandise.
The English footballing legend has returned to prominence in recent months after his ownership of Inter Miami with the team signing Lionel Messi, as well as Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. Nico Hulkenberg has criticized Haas for its sparse approach to development, insisting the US outfit “can’t compete in F1” by restricting its upgrades.
Despite a chronic tyre degradation issue that has undermined its car all year in race trim, Haas opted not to update its VF-23 on a regular basis throughout the season, contrary to its rivals.

Pegula, who came into the contest with a dismal 1-4 record against the hard-hitting Sabalenka, managed to absorb her powerful serve to extend rallies and thwart the Belarusian’s comeback attempts.
