Police arrest 2 for hacking into over 5,000 bank accounts in Lagos (Guardian)
Detectives attached to the Zonal Monitoring Unit of Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos have arrested two suspected Internet fraudsters, who specialised in hacking into people’s accounts and fleecing them of their cash.
Sources said the suspects identified as Yusuf Ademola and Adesina Olawale Abiodun had confessed that they had hacked into over 5000 accounts of different people especially, those whose bank accounts are with the United Bank for Africa (UBA).
A statement by the Zonal Public Relations Officer (PRO), Hauwa Idris Adamu, made available to The Guardian, said there were other members of the syndicate, adding that the police had spread its dragnet to tracking fleeing members of the syndicate. Read more
Mmesoma: HURIWA flays JAMB, calls for proper investigations (Vanguard)
Civil rights advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, on Tuesday flayed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB over its stance of one Miss Ejikeme Mmesoma for allegedly faking her results and called for proper investigations into the matter.
Vanguard reports that JAMB had on Tuesday, announced the suspension of Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma from writing its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, for three years over alleged forgery of her 2023 result.
It insisted that the result being paraded by Miss Mmesoma was forged, explaining that it had since stopped issuing Notification of Result slips after the 2021 UTME for the simple reason that candidates were falsifying them. Read more

Tribunal: LP’s Rhodes-Vivour closes case against Sanwo-Olu (Channels)
The Labour Party (LP)’s governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, on Tuesday, closed his case before the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
Rhodes-Vivour is challenging the victory of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the March 18 governorship poll.
He is also challenging the eligibility of the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat to contest on grounds that he allegedly renounced his Nigerian citizenship and swore allegiance to the United States of America. Read more
Lagos Eze Ndigbo’s trial begins today (Vanguard)
A Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, has adjourned till today, to commence the trial of one Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate, Lagos, Frederick Nwajagu, for alleged terrorism.
Trial judge, Justice Yetunde Adesanya, adjourned the matter, following the absence of Nwajagu’s counsel.
Nwajagu, 67, was arrested in April by the Department of State Services, DSS, over an alleged threat to
invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to Lagos to secure the property of Igbos in the state. Read more
Investors lose N671b as equities tumble (Punch)
Stock investors recorded a significant loss of N671bn on Tuesday at the Nigerian equity market which had posted a strong start at the beginning of the second half of the year.
The All-Share Index closed at 60,715.04 index points, 1.99 per cent less than the 61,949.24 index points it recorded at the end of the previous trading day.
In a remarkable one-day loss, the market value of shares fell by N671bn, (1.99 per cent), to N33.06tn at the close of trading. This was from N33.731tn recorded in the previous day’s session. Read more
Mbah appoints Akeredolu-Ale MD of ESBS (Guardian)
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has appointed Ladi Akeredolu-Ale as Managing Director of Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS). Until his appointment, Ladi was the Controller, Current Affairs, at Channels Television in Lagos State.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, announced the appointment in a statement, yesterday. The veteran journalist is expected to bring to bear over 30 years of experience to the state broadcasting service.

I Fuel Subsidy: Zulum releases free buses to transport farmers in Borno (Tribune)
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state has released 60 vehicles to transport farmers who are farming in the outskirts of Maiduguri metropolis and other Local Government areas.
Zulum announced this on Tuesday when he was addressing farmers at Molai in Maiduguri.

In “Tiger Within,” he plays a Holocaust survivor who becomes the unlikely friend of a homeless teenager who was raised by a Holocaust denier. The movie was filmed in the summer of 2018, and Asner, the Emmy award-winning actor best known for his roles as Lou Grant on the Mary Tyler Moore Show and Carl in the Pixar animated film Up, died in 2021 at the age of 91. Senegal President Macky Sall says he won’t run for 3rd term (BBC)
Senegal’s President Macky Sall has ruled out seeking re-election in 2024, ending widespread speculation that he would run for a third term.
“The 2019 term was my second and last term,” he said in a televised address.
Rumours he would try to extend his grip on power have fuelled unrest several times since 2021, with dozens killed.
The opposition had called for fresh protests if Mr Sall decided to run again – which many legal experts say would have violated the constitution. Read more
Israeli military says huge incursion into West Bank refugee camp ‘‘not over yet’’ (CNN)
The Israeli military’s operation in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin is winding down but “not over” until the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) say it is, a spokesperson told CNN, as the United Nations expressed deep concern over the violence in the city’s sprawling refugee camp.
At least 12 people, ranging in ages from 16 to 23, have been killed and scores more injured after Israeli forces launched operations in the camp this week, Palestinian officials say. Israel said it was targeting Palestinian terrorists and one of its soldiers was killed in the operation.
UNICEF, the United Nations children’s agency, reported that at least three children lost their lives, while many others sustained injuries amid ongoing clashes. Read more

Sergio Garcia misses out in qualifying for Open Championship (ESPN)
Sergio Garcia’s quest to play in his 25th straight Open Championship ended Tuesday when he failed to qualify for the season’s fourth major.
Playing in a qualifier at West Lancashire Golf Club, Garcia shot a 5-under 67 in the morning round of the 36-hole competition. But after taking the lead at 8 under following three birdies in the first six holes of the second round, Garcia couldn’t keep up the pace.
Garcia, 43, hit his drive into the rough on the par-4 seventh hole and he wound up with a bogey on his way to a 71 and a cumulative 6-under par. Read more
