Police arrest alleged fake customs officer over auction fraud (Punch)
The Police in Zone 2 command Onikan, Lagos, have arrested an alleged fake woman customs officer, Rakiya Musa, for allegedly swindling unsuspecting members of the public.
The Zonal Public Relations Officer (ZPRO), SP Hauwa Idris-Adamu, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday.
Idris-Adamu said that the Assistant Inspector General of Police of the Zone, comprising Lagos and Ogun, Mr. Mohammed Ali, received a petition on April 12 from two members of the public against Musa. Read more
NDLEA uncovers Meth lab in Lagos community (Leadership)
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have uncovered a secret laboratory producing deadly illicit substance, Methamphetamine, in a residential community located in Ikeja, Lagos State, where already packaged sachets of the drug and various precursor chemicals used in the production were recovered.
The clandestine laboratory located at No. 4 Bode Oluwo Street, Mende, Maryland, Ikeja, was stormed by anti-narcotics officers of the Agency on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 after credible intelligence and surveillance confirmed the illicit substance was being produced in the duplex building.

Director, Media & Advocacy, NDLEA, on Sunday, said at the end of the search, one kilogram of already produced and packaged methamphetamine, quantities of precursor chemicals and other items used for the production of the deadly drug were recovered from the house while efforts were on to apprehend the fleeing owner of the house. Retired Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, a former Military President, has tasked Nigerian leaders to explore the gains of June 12, 1993 Presidential Election, toward deepening democracy in the country.
Babangida spoke in Minna with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Nigeria’s democy and the journey so far.
“The gains of June 12, 1993 presidential election have not been exploited by political leaders in succeeding elections in Nigeria.
“It was adjudged the freest and fairest election in Nigeria, yet politicians have blatantly ignored that beauty; the beauty of credible elections.
“Remember, it was an election Nigerians came out en mass to choose their leaders, irrespective of their cultural/traditional and religious affiliations,” he said. Read more
Immigration officer retrieves foreign currencies, credit cards of foreigner at Lagos International Airport (Independent)
An officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) attached to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos Command has retrieved lost items belonging to a foreign passenger at the airport.
A source close to the command, confided in our correspondent over the weekend that no fewer than $5,000, credit cards and an Identification Number (ID) card of yet to be identified foreign passenger was retrieved at the Visa on Arrival (VoA) point of the command at the E-Wing Arrival section of the terminal last Sunday.
Apart from the dollar currency, our correspondent also gathered that other foreign currencies were also retrieved by the officer. Read more
Lagos inaugurates 10-man committee on healthcare (Vanguard)
The Lagos State Government, in its bid to sustain the implementation of various interventions aimed at improving access to Primary Health Care has inaugurated a 10-member steering committee that will develop a telehealth model for the underserved population in the state.
Speaking at the kick-off of the implementation research, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, explained that health is a cardinal focus in the agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Represented by the Director, Medical Administration and Training, Ministry of Health, Dr. Olufunmilayo Shokunbi, the Permanent Secretary said that the Lagos State Government, during the COVID-19 pandemic, introduced the telemedicine service “EKOTELEMED” in 2020, and this has provided vital healthcare services and mitigated the risk of contagious disease for the residents as well as the medical personnel. Prof. Jerry Gana, former Minister of Information and National Orientation, says the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election was a tragic mistake that was not supposed to have happened.
Gana said this when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Nigeria’s democracy; the journey so far.
He said that the former military president, retired Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, meant well by organising the election but for some powerful forces made him to annul it to suit their selfish interests.
“It was a tragic mistake, it should not have happened but since it happened may God help us to get out of it,” he said.

Bandits’, Kidnappers’ informant arrested in Abuja (DailyTrust)
The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), said it has arrested an alleged informant and logistics supplier to a kidnapping and banditry group terrorising the FCT and its environs.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.
She said the suspect, arrested by the anti-Kidnapping unit at the Mongoro Forest, had been on the wanted list of the command. Read more

Unabomber Ted Kaczynski found dead in US prison cell (BBC)
Ted Kaczynski, better known as the Unabomber, has been found dead in his prison cell, federal officials confirmed to the BBC.
Kaczynski, 81, killed three people and injured 23 more during a mass mail-bombing spree between 1978 and 1995. He later pleaded guilty to his crimes.
He was sentenced to life without parole in 1996 after evading capture for almost 20 years.

Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN), Kwara State chapter, has insisted that recent court orders retraining the Kwara Football Association from holding its elections be respected and that its right to vote as critical stakeholders in the round leather game be respected.
The association filed a suit at a Kwara state upper Area Court, sitting in Ilorin which has since restrained the state branch of the Football Association (FA) from conducting the June 13 election to be held in the Kaiama local government area of the state, meant to usher in the new administration for the soccer administrative body in the state.
