Fifteen years of killings, robbery and terrorism orchestrated by Wasiu Akinwande aka Olori Eso might have come to an end.
The 44-year-old notorious hired killer, head of killersโ gang and cultist kingpin who along with his multiple gangs and hoodlums have been terrorizing the Mushin area of Lagos State and its environs was arrested by the Tactical Squad operatives of the Lagos State Police Command.

Man jailed 76 years for child pornography, fraud (Punch)
A Federal High Court in Lagos State has convicted and sentenced a man Olukeye Adeayo Olalekan to a total of 76 years imprisonment for child pornography, cyberstalking, money laundering, and fraud.
Justice Alexander Owoeye, on Thursday, handed down the sentencing after finding him guilty of the offences.
Olalekan was arraigned on 18 counts bordering on the distribution and procurement of child pornography, cyberstalking, retention and concealment of fraudulent funds, and obtaining property under false pretences, preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. (Read more)
Top Lagos cultist finally arrested (Vanguard)
The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested a 44-year-old suspected hired killer and cultist kingpin believed to be terrorising the Mushin area of the state.
The Commandโs spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday in Lagos. He stated that the suspect was apprehended at his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, after several failed attempts by the Police Tactical Squad.
โToday, operatives of the Tactical Squad, during a special operation codenamed โSilence, Speed and Surpriseโ, successfully trailed and arrested the notorious suspect. (Read more)
2 Islamic clerics arraigned for scamming doctor N280m (Punch)
Two self-proclaimed Islamic clerics have been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly duping a medical doctor of the sum of N280m under the guise of performing spiritual prayers on the money.
The defendants, Saheed Atanda Aremu, 44, and Tolani Osuolale, 48, allegedly convinced Dr. Patrick Eloka Akaraiwe to hand over $200,000 in three tranches. They claimed that the money had to be spiritually โfortifiedโ before it could be safely used to buy property or else the doctor would face an untimely death.
The men, who claimed to be Alfas, were arraigned on Thursday on five counts bordering on conspiracy, fraud, obtaining by false pretence and stealing preferred against them by the police. (Read more)
7 Chinese nationals jailed for cyberterrorism, internet fraud in Lagos (Guardian)
A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday convicted and sentenced seven Chinese nationals to one year imprisonment each for their involvement in cyberterrorism and internet fraud linked to a massive Ponzi scheme uncovered in December 2024.
The convicts โ Peng Li Huan, Zhang Jin Rong, He Kun, Rachelle Cabalona, Caselyn Pionela, Guo Long Long, and Zhang Hua Zhai โ were arrested during a raid conducted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a building located on Oyin Jolayemi Street, Lagos, where over 700 suspects were apprehended.
They were separately arraigned before Justice Ayokunle Faji, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, and Justice Yellim Bogoro. (Read more)
LASTMA accused of covering up N70m excavator theft at Lagos yard (Punch)
The management of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has come under fire over an alleged attempt to cover up the theft of an impounded excavator worth about N70m by two members of staff.
PUNCH Metro gathered from insiders on Thursday that the incident, which occurred on June 10, has thrown the agency into confusion, with several staff members accusing top management of shielding one of the suspects involved.
According to insiders, who pleaded anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the case, the missing excavator had been parked at LASTMAโs headquarters for over a decade after it was reportedly impounded. However, the incident came to light after workers resumed work following the Sallah holiday and noticed the equipment was gone. (Read more)
Court remands 40-year-old man for allegedly stealing electrical cable worth N3m (Vanguard)
An Ikorodu Chief Magistratesโ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded a 40-year-old man, Seun Olakunle, in a correctional centre for breaking into a house and stealing an electrical cable valued N3 million.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr B.A. Sonuga ordered the defendantโs remand after he had pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing. Sonuga then adjourned the case till July 17 to review facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Aminu Isaac, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 19 at about 6 a.m. at No. 5 Aliqoda Str. in the Oreyo area of Ikorodu. (Read more)
Lagos taskforce arrests 84 suspects in Agege clean-Up operation (Punch)
The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has arrested 84 individuals during its ongoing enforcement and clean-up operation in the Agege area of the state.
This was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor, Jubril Gawat, in a post on his official social media handle. According to Gawat, the operation, which took place on Friday, June 20, 2025, targeted several notorious hotspots in Agege, including the Railway corridor at Ojurin, Isale Oja, Oke Koto, AP junction, and other adjoining streets, where Taskforce officials encountered suspected miscreants and environmental offenders.
A statement issued after the operation read: โLagos State Environmental Task Force on Friday, June. 20 2025, embarked on its ongoing clean-up enforcement operation in the Agege area. (Read more)
Police arrest two traffic robbers in Lagos (Guardian)
Operatives of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS), a unit of the Lagos Police Command, have arrested two notorious traffic robbers operating in the Ketu and Mile 12 areas of Kosofe, Lagos State.
The suspects, Yemi Aparaojo, 33, popularly known as Asa, and Samuel Adekunle (also known as Omo-jo-Ibo), 37, were apprehended at about 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Aparaojo, an ex-convict, had been released from Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre in May 2025 after serving six and a half years. Adekunle, who had been linked to multiple traffic robberies around Ajelogo and Ketu, had been under surveillance by the RRS operatives.
Last week, the suspects and two accomplices allegedly robbed a passerby of N25,000 around noon. The victim, who had attempted to assist the gang with money after they pestered him, was subsequently assaulted. (Read more)
Scandal: Convicted inmate caught processing passport, visa in Lagos (Punch)
The Nigerian Correctional Service has started investigation into the circumstances surrounding the movement of a robbery convict, Haruna Ayo, to a passport office in Lagos for processing of travel documents.
Saturday PUNCH exclusively gathered that the incident happened on Wednesday, May 19, 2025, when warders from the Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Apapa, moved the inmate to the Nigeria Immigration Service passport office at FESTAC Town under suspicious circumstances.
According to a credible source, Ayo was convicted for armed robbery and sentenced to life imprisonment, which was later reduced to 21 years on appeal and further reviewed downward after some consideration. He was due for release on October 11, 2025. Our correspondent learnt that the inmate was among five convicts selected to do a menial job at the residence of the officer in charge of the custodial centre on the day of the incident. (Read more)
