Police arrest owner as dogs kill security guard in Lagos (Punch)

Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested the owner of three dogs that allegedly attacked and killed a security guard at Pinnock Estate in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user with the handle @itzbasito, the security guard, who is yet to be identified, was seen lying dead as the Boerboel dogs approached his lifeless body.

The user stated that the dog owner unknowingly allowed the dogs to roam freely, leading to the attack that claimed the life of the estate guard on Monday night. Read more

10-year-old rape victim bled 3 days after incident – Witness (Punch)

A medical doctor, Edith Onovore, on Tuesday, told an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, how a 10-year-old rape victim she examined was still bleeding three days after the incident.

Onovore, who was testifying in the ongoing trial of Samuel Olaide, over the alleged rape of the minor, told Justice Rahman Oshodi that the girl’s pants had blood stains and even the sanitary pad she wore was also soaked.

Olaide is standing trial on a count of alleged unlawful defilement of the victim, preferred against him, by the Lagos State Government. Read more

Lagos driver flees after setting LASTMA officer on fire (Punch)

A commercial driver is on the run after causing bodily injuries to an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority in the Mile 2 area of the state on Tuesday.

The LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to PUNCH Metro on Tuesday.

According to Taofiq, LASTMA operatives had accosted the driver for violating traffic regulations but he resisted arrest.

He noted that in an attempt to evade arrest, the driver sprayed his vehicle and some of the officers who had taken over the vehicle with petrol, set the bus on fire and fled the scene. Read more

Police seize dogs involved in security guard’s death in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Command has confirmed that it confiscated the three dogs that allegedly killed a security guard, whose identity is yet unknown, in Pinnock Estate, Ilasan, Lekki area of the state.

The police also confirmed the arrest of the owner of the fierce-looking dogs, Salisu Mustapha.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known in a statement released on Wednesday.

According to him, the dogs are in their custody and are receiving better treatment to avoid infringing on animal rights. Read more

An Investigating Police Officer, Elizabeth Osikolu, on Monday, told an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, how a housewife, Omolara Alashe, forced a 19-year-old girl (name withheld) to sleep with her husband, Ramoni Lateef, to bear children.

Osikolu, the second prosecution witness, who was led in evidence–in–chief by the state prosecuting counsel, B.T. Boye, leading Bukola Okeowo, narrated this to Justice Rahman Oshodi.

Alashe and Lateef, who are both first and second defendants respectively, are standing trial bordering on conspiracy, rape, sexual assault and stealing, preferred against them by the Lagos State Government. Read more

Teacher arraigned for alleged sexual assault of 6-year-old (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command on Monday arraigned a 25-year-old teacher, Omobolanle Micheal Olaniyi, at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, presided over by Justice Ramon Oshodi, for alleged sexual assault of a six-year-old pupil.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspect who was arrested July 24, 2023, was being charged with indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault by penetration.

According to the prosecuting counsel, B. E. Okeowo, the offences contravene Sections 135 and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. Read more

Cleric bags life jail for raping minor inside mosque (Punch)

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a Muslim cleric (Alfa), Alani Rafiu, to life imprisonment for raping a 14 –year- old girl inside a mosque.

Justice Rahman Oshodi handed down the sentence on Monday after finding Rafiu guilty of the offence of child defilement.

Rafiu was arraigned on October 28, 2021, for having sexual intercourse with the teenager.

The incident occurred on August 17, 2021, in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

Man arraigned on 8 counts of robbery (Punch)

The police, on Thursday, arraigned a man, identified as Nasiru Mohammed, before the Ikeja High Court of Lagos State, presided over by Honourable Justice Oyindamola Ogala for allegedly conspiring to commit robbery and robbery charges.

The defendant is facing a count of conspiracy, and seven counts for robbery.

The prosecuting counsel, O. A. Azeez, told the court that the defendant and others who are still at large conspired to commit the alleged offence brought against them. Read more

Judge summons mother for son’s cybercrime case (Punch)

Justice Ayokunle Faji of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered the mother of a 19-year-old painter, Chinonso Udeh, to appear in court on November 1, 2024.

Udeh, who was brought before Justice Faji, was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a count of cybercrime. He pleaded guilty.

Following his plea, the EFCC prosecutor, Mr Suleiman  Suleiman, reviewed the facts of the case through a witness, Mr Abdulraman Mohammed, an operative.
