In a swift operation, officers from the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) apprehended an 18-year-old suspect on Friday, June 7, for allegedly stealing LED road stud lights from the newly renovated Third Mainland Bridge.
The suspect, Mubarak Abdullahi, a resident of Makoko, was found with ten LED road stud lights, which are installed to enhance road visibility.
Abdullahi was reportedly caught in the act by RRS operatives patrolling the bridge. Read more

US court slams 51-month jail term on Nigerian for love scam (Leadership)
Nigerian Uchenna Christian Nlemchi has been sentenced to a 51-month imprisonment alongside an order to pay a $524,000 fine in restitution for his involvement in a romance scam and business email compromise plot.
Nlemchi who was also ordered to pay a money judgment of $868,295 was extradited from Hungary to the United States of America in 2023.

Justice Thomas Okosu of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal has slammed a N150 million fine on Multichoice Nigeria.
Okosu, who chaired a three-man panel, on Friday, also ordered Multichoice to provide one-month free subscription on its DStv and GOtv platforms.
A lawyer, Festus Onifade, had sued Multichoice after it announced increment of subscription rates on its DStv and GOtv packages from May 1, 2024. Read more
Unpaid bills: EEDC threatens to disconnect govt houses, universities, industries, others in South-East (Vanguard)
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has threatened to disconnect all the five South East Government Houses, the University of Nigeria, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, the Nigerian Army, among others, for failure to clear their accumulated energy bills.
In a disconnection notice, EEDC advised them to clear the bills on or before June 10, 2024.
The notice by the company sighted on Friday reads: “The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to notify her customers with outstanding electricity bills, that effective from 10th June 2024, the company will commence the disconnection of electricity supply to these indebted customers. Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has signed three executive orders aimed at protecting consumers, the environment, and public infrastructure.
The first, Executive Order No. 2 of 2024 focuses on community & environmental protection, public safety & security, and the prohibition of deforestation in Bauchi state. The order was designed to curb the growing problem of illegal tree felling in the region.
While appending his signature on the executive orders. he said:
“This aspect of security and environmental protection is key especially the aspect that is impinging on our security, and of course, our biodiversity that is further aggravating the deploration of our environment by charcoal sellers, bush burners, fellers of tree with a lot of impunity and connivance between our forestry officers, local authorities and various levels of leadership. Police in Burlington, Vermont, issued a public apology after students were shaken up by a role-play robbery demonstration that included “a mock shooting.”
About 20 Burlington High School students in a forensic program part of the year End Studies (YES) Program visited the Burlington Police Department on Wednesday, the school district said WPTZ of Plattsburgh, New York, reported.

Alexander Zverev has agreed to a settlement after the mother of his child accused him of physical abuse and a German court closed the case Friday, the French Open semifinalist’s lawyers said.
