The incident occurred at Bishop Okoye Street, Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

Finland charges Simon Ekpa with inciting terrorism (Channels)
Finnish prosecutors on Friday said they had charged a man with inciting terrorism online who a media report identified as Nigerian separatist leader Simon Ekpa.
Finland’s National Prosecution Authority said in a statement that it had charged “a Finnish individual in a case involving suspected public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent and participation in the activities of a terrorist group.”
It added that the alleged crimes had been committed in the city of Lahti between 2021 and 2024 and were related to the suspect’s efforts to establish Nigeria’s Biafra region as an independent state. Read more

Chairperson of the Labour Party (LP) caretaker committee, Nenadi Usman, has dared Julius Abure to follow through on his threat to expose Peter Obi, Alex Otti and other key members aligned with her faction of the party.
Speaking during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, on Friday, Usman dismissed Abure’s threats as bluster, challenging him to bring forward any evidence he claims to have.

DSS sues Pat Utomi over alleged shadow govt plan (NewTelegraph)
The Department of State Services (DSS) on Friday sued Professor Pat Utomi, the 2007 Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), over his alleged plan to establish what he calls a “shadow government” in the country.
In a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the DSS prayed the court to declare the move an attack on the constitution.
Utomi who is also a professor of political economy and man, who is also a is sued as the sole defendant. Read more

The Lagos State Police Command has debunked speculations surrounding a viral video showing 89 young men arriving in Lagos and gathering in Ibeju-Lekki.
The Command confirmed that the individuals are legitimate workers recruited from Katsina State for employment at the Dangote Refinery in Lekki.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State has sentenced a 27-year-old fashion designer, Haruna Tolani to 12 months imprisonment.
Tolani was sentenced for impersonating and defrauding Callitus Egwuonwu, an investigating officer with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Directorate.
The convicted tailor was initially arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on impersonation and cybercrime on January 28, 2025 and pleaded not guilty, but later changed his plea to guilty after overwhelming evidence was presented by counsel to the EFCC, Sesan Ola. Read more

Yiaga Africa has rejected the proposed bill under consideration in the National Assembly seeking to introduce compulsory voting in Nigeria and prescribing a six-month jail term for eligible voters who refuse to vote at elections.

Undocumented immigrant faces $1.82m fine for failing to leave US after 2005 removal order, documents show (CBS)
An undocumented immigrant who resides in Florida is facing a more than $1.82 million fine for failing to leave the country after receiving a removal order 20 years ago, CBS News has learned.
According to the notice sent May 9 by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s civil fines department and provided to CBS News, the 41-year-old Florida woman and mother of three, who CBS News has chosen not to name, was charged $500 for every day she has remained in the U.S. since the removal order was issued in April 2005, running up a total of $1,821,350.
