A yet-to-be-identified man was shot dead, February 2, 2025, a few blocks away from a popular lounge in Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, said an immediate investigation has been launched.

According to him, the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, with a Deputy Commissioner of Police leading the probe under the directive of Commissioner Sonubi Ayodele.

Osifeso also clarified that no police officers were involved in any killings and that no student fatalities were recorded before, during, or after the dispersal of onlookers from the crime scene.

He said, โ€œAlso worthy of note, is that the swift presence of Police at the scene minutes after it was reported was to maintain law and order and not to further increase the pandemonium as reported by some spaces on social media where they claimed that the Police accidentally shot and killed an onlooker (Student) during the dispersal.

He however said normalcy has since returned to the area with adequate deployment of operational and intelligence Command assets to prevent an hijack of the scene by hoodlums. (TVC)
