Police grill actress Tonko Dikeh over alleged defamation, cyberbullying (Leadership)
Popular Nollywood Actress, Tonto Dikeh has been questioned by the operatives of the Nigeria Police in connection with an ongoing investigation into criminal defamation, cyberbullying, and forgery, among other charges where her name featured.
Dikeh’s invitation was issued by the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit, directing her to appear at the Police Headquarters in Abuja to respond to some allegations made against her in a petition.
The invitation letter signed by the Head, IGP Monitoring Unit, A.A. Elleman, said the actress-turned-politician’s name prominently appeared in the investigation being conducted by the unit. Read more

The #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria Organising Committee has demanded the dismissal of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in response to the killing of protesters.
This demand was made during a candlelight symposium held in honour of the victims at the Rights House in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Friday.

A task force team, on Thursday, removed a shrine constructed near a road in Lagos State.
It was gathered that the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps removed the Shrine erected close to a main road at Moshalasi Bus Stop, Ile Epo in Iyana Ipaja.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has elevated the duo of Mrs. Ijeoma Blessing Nwosu-Igbo and Mrs. Christabel Ebanehita Eromosele to the position of General Manager, Public Affairs and General Manager, Protocol and Passages respectively.
Information made available to journalists by the Directorate of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of FAAN, confirmed both appointments, which took effect from June 2024 following their resounding successes in the mandatory management promotion examinations.

Cross dresser found dead on Abuja expressway (Channels)
The Commissioner of Police of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benneth Igweh, has ordered an immediate investigation into the death of an unidentified cross dresser.
The cross dresser’s corpse was found along Katampe-Mabushi Expressway, Abuja in the early hours of Thursday.
In a statement, the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said, “A distress call was received by the Command Control Room on August 8, 2024, at about 07:40 am, that an unidentified lady was seen lying motionless along Katampe-Mabushi Expressway, and a team of Detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene.” Read more

Thousands of Palestinians in the southern city of Khan Younis, were forced to flee yet again to other areas of the enclave on Thursday.
While a few had transport, many of the people could be seen carrying what they could on foot, after the Israeli military ordered another mass evacuation.

Actor Gabriel Olds has been arrested and charged with seven counts of sexual assault, say police.
The Eyes of Tammy Faye actor, 52, was arrested in Los Angeles, Calif., on Wednesday, Aug. 7, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement on Thursday.
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office charged him with seven counts of sexual assault in July and issued an arrest warrant for $3.5 million, per the statement. Read more

A documentary capturing Paul McCartney And Wings recording their One Hand Clapping album at Abbey Road Studios in 1974 is set to finally be released this autumn.
It comes after the record, deemed one of the “most bootlegged live albums”, received a proper release earlier this year about 50 years after it was recorded.
Directed by David Litchfield, the film will explore the making of the album through rare footage, interviews with the band and insights from the creative team behind it. Read more
7.1 magnitude earthquake hits Japan, triggers tsunami advisory (UPI)
A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck southwestern Japan on Thursday afternoon, sparking a tsunami advisory around the country.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said the earthquake hit off of Miyazaki Prefecture at a depth of nearly 19 miles. The agency said the tremor produced a tsunami of about one foot high in the western part of the country.
The advisory called for people to immediately leave the water in Miyazaki, Oita, Kagoshima, Kokchi and Ehime prefectures. Read more

Gateway United FC of Abeokuta have denied losing 13-1 to Al Merrikh in a recent friendly, adding that the scandalous loss was suffered by another Nigerian club who are illegally using their name and logo.
The Nigeria National League side made this clarity in Thursday’s release by the media department titled, “Unauthorised use of Gateway United FC name, logo,” in which they sternly warned the imposter against further use of their name and logo.
The release read, ”It has come to our attention that a team impersonating Gateway FC recently played a match against Al Merrikh and suffered a 13-1 defeat. We wish to clarify that Gateway United FC had no involvement in this match.
