The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has restated that no “Police Report” is needed before any government or privately-owned medical facility could admit and render emergency services to any victim of gunshot wounds.

The Police said every medical facility in the country was free to receive and treat victims of gunshot wounds with or without Police clearance, but are duty-bound to report to the nearest Police station after commencing treatment of the victim.

In the same vein, President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Francis Faduyile said even though several doctors have been arrested and kept behind bars, sometimes due to mundane things that are within the purview of medical management, any doctor who rejects a patient in emergency and did not stabilise his life is liable, “because the oath we took is to, first of all, save life. Once you are liable and you are found guilty, there are sanctions.” Read more

Maersk boss’ attackers hid weapons in neighbourhood for days before incident (Nation)

The two suspects who attacked the Luggard Avenue, Ikoyi residence of the Managing Director of Maersk Line Shipping Company, Gildas Tohouo, on Sunday had smuggled in their weapons and hid them in an empty flat in the estate several days before the incident.

An estate electrician Goke Olamilekan and his friend Akande Adeyinka allegedly attacked the family on Sunday night, killing the Tohouo’s wife Benedeth after robbing her of cash, ATM cards and other valuables while leaving him critically injured.

Fresh information gathered on Friday revealed that the suspects, who have since been detained at the homicide unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti, plotted the attack on the family for three weeks. Read more

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Friday screened three commissioner-nominees   submitted by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Succour for people living with leprosy (DailyTrust)

The ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development have donated mobility aids and appliances to physically challenged people and residents living with leprosy in three leprosy colonies in Abuja. Eche Enejoh is among 32 recipients who benefited; he got a replacement for his wheelchair which had broken and made his mobility difficult. Fatima Haruna, another disabled woman on crutches, also got on her first-ever wheelchair.

Other beneficiaries got armpit crutches, walking sticks, tricycles, elbow crutches. They also got appliances to sustain their livelihoods including hairdressing kits with generator and milling machines. Read more

Group creates awareness on sexual violence (Nation)

In order to commemorates the UN 16 Days of Activism for Gender Based Violence, the Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF), a non-profit organization leading the charge against gender based violence in Nigeria, held an advocacy march to raise awareness against gender based violence in Nigeria.

The march, tagged the “No Tolerance  March,” was organized following the success of the “No Tolerance” advocacy campaign launched earlier in the year.

The campaign saw celebrities like Richard Mofe-Damijo, RMD;  Rita Dominic;  Kate Henshaw;  Funke Akindele and many more stand with WARIF to say no to  sexual abuse and violence by posting short videos and pictures on their social media platforms. Read more

Body moves to identify 22,000 persons for HIV treatment in Nasarawa (Vanguard)

Worried by the increasing spate of HIV/AIDs, An implementing partner, Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative (AHNi) is working to identify about 22, 000 unidentified and discover  HIV infected persons in  Nasarawa State.

The move is to enable the implementing partners to support  the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS  and to provide the needed drugs to the affected persons in the state.

The partners disclosed this Friday at the end of a five-day workshop to develop 2020 annual operational plan on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. Read more

FG bars Onnoghen from travelling, seizes his passport (Punch)

The immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, has been barred from travelling out of the country by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Saturday PUNCH reports that the move may be part of a fresh probe into Onnoghen’s affairs. Onnoghen was convicted for not declaring his assets by the Code of Conduct Tribunal in April.

An internal report issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service, which was read out to our correspondent by a top officer, stated that Onnoghen, his wife and daughter were attempting to travel to Accra, Ghana when they were accosted by immigration officers. Read more

19-year-old boy impregnates mother while testing love charm in Delta (Guardian)

Residents of Asaba, Delta State were left bewildered after a 19-year-old boy allegedly impregnated his mother while testing his love charm. According to reports gathered, the boy, popularly called Ekenem had gone to a native doctor, who prepared a love charm for him to use on his mother and one of the matrons in the college where he is a boarding student.

It was gathered that the husband of the woman, who has been away for some time outside his Port Harcourt operational base, denied being responsible for the pregnancy during interrogation. But the victim, the suspect’s mother, while speaking to journalists said: “I did not know how it happened, but all I can say is that a young man who looked like my son suddenly found his way into my room at the wee hours and I was speechless”, adding that the whole exercise had remained inexplicable. ESTRANGED record label of Kizz Daniel, G-Worldwide Entertainment (GWW), has vowed to frustrate the concert of the artiste slated for December 26 at the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos.

Japan donates equipment to school for the blind (Nation)

THE Government of Japan on Tuesday donated and commissioned a large scale project of renovation and provision of training equipment to Nigeria Farmcraft Centre for The Blind in Lagos.

Mr. Takayuki Shinozawa, the Charge D’affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Nigeria, led an entourage from Abuja to the centre in Igando, a Lagos surburb in the Alimosho local government area.

Former Golden Eaglets’ striker, Philip Osondu dies in Belgium (Vanguard)

Philip Osondu, former golden eaglets’ striker has died at the age of 48.

The former El-Kanami warrior player was part of the nation’s squad that participated in the U-16 Canada in 1987.

He reportedly died on arrival at a Belgian hospital he took himself to for treatment on Thursday after observing some abnormal physiology of his body system.

Osondu, who was regarded as one of the great talents in Nigeria and considered to have moved too early abroad played for Belgian Pro team, Anderlecht. Read more

Super Falcons yesterday dropped from 36th position to 39th in the latest Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) women’s world ranking released yesterday.

The African champions, who failed to secure a place in next year’s football event of the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, dropped in points from 1643 to 1614, but still retain the spot as the most ranked country in Africa.

USA will finish this year as the one number ranked country with 2174 points, followed by Germany (2078) and The Netherlands (2035) in the third position. Read more

Ko Jin-young of China Saudi Arabia will host its first-ever golf tournament for women from 19-22 March next year at the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in Jeddah, with 108 professionals set to participate.
