Police in Lagos State have intercepted a 43-year-old man with thirty sacks of suspected Indian Hemp at a Jetty in the Ojo area of Lagos.
Confirming the incident, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State police, announced the interception via his X handle on Friday, April 19, 2024.
Hundeyin revealed that detectives from the tactical squad, Ijaniki, made the seizure during their early morning patrol around the Ajangbadi area.
According to Hundeyin, the tactical team trailed a white Mercedes Benz mini truck to the Ilufe Waterside Jetty, located in Alaba International, Ojo.
Upon investigation, officers discovered a sizable quantity of substances suspected to be Indian Hemp being offloaded from a flying boat.
Subsequently, a suspect (43 years old, identity withheld) believed to be the truck’s driver, was arrested. A total of 1,040 wraps of the suspected Indian Hemp, packed in 30 sacks, were confiscated.
The suspect claimed that he was contacted by an individual known only as Ifeanyi, who tasked him with transporting the substances from Waterside Jetty to Alaba International Market in Ojo, Lagos.
The source said, “He was alleged to be the driver of the white Mercedes Benz mini-truck, and a total of 1,040 wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in 13 sacks were recovered. The suspect alleged that one Ifeanyi ‘m’’ contacted him to convey the substance from Waterside Jetty Alaba to Alaba International Market Ojo.”
