Police rescue 2 toddlers locked up in Lagos apartment (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has rescued two infants who were locked up in an apartment on Adelakun Street, in the Iju Ishaga area of Lagos State.
The toddlers, PUNCH Metro gathered, were found in a state of neglect when the rescue operation took place.
A rights group, Advocate for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network, alleged that the mother of the infants had been grappling with substance abuse. Read more

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has advised his colleagues in the Force to shun bribery as it is an ungodly act, in which he has never been involved.
The Force PRO, while responding to post on his X handle on Sunday, May 19, emphatically noted that he has never accepted bribe in his service life, stressing that it is a taboo for him as a royal Prince.
Earlier, a social media user, Valentine Kruze, with the handle @ValentineKruz14, had asked ACP Adejobi whether he has taken bribe before. Read more
2 beheaded, 7 kidnapped, houses burnt in fresh Ebonyi crisis (Vanguard)
Suspected warlords early, yesterday, attacked Ikachi village in the Akparata area of Effium in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, killing two persons and destroying property worth millions of naira.
It was learned that the two killed were beheaded while seven persons were kidnapped and five houses burnt down.
In a statement in Abakaliki, President-General of Effiulm Community, Dr James Agena, said the attackers, suspected to be Ezza warriors, struck the village early morning of yesterday, killing two persons and kidnapping seven persons. Read more
Senate panel on health lauds LUTH (Nation)
Chair of Senate Committee on Health, Secondary and Tertiary Services, Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, has lauded Chief Medical Director of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Wasiu Adeyemo, for upgrading infrastructure in the health institution.
She spoke during a visit to the hospital by the committee in LUTH, Idi-Araba. According to her, Adeyemo and his team were passionate about providing health services to the people.
“We saw the Cancer Centre. It was well attended. The equipment they have are modern and the work they do precise”, she said. Read more

Hoodlums stab health worker to death in Niger (DailyTrust)
A 35-year old health worker identified as Umar Mohammed has been stabbed to death in Gbeganu Area of Minna, Niger State capital.
Sources said the deceased, staff of a private clinic in Minna, was returning home after attending to a patient when he rammed into hoodlums fighting with dangerous.
Fight was said to have broken out between hoodlums at a wedding reception in Gbeganu, during which some people were also injured. Read more

Iran state TV says there is “no sign of life” at the crash site of a helicopter that was carrying President Ebrahim Raisi and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
Reports say the helicopter – one of three travelling in a convoy – made a “hard landing” on Sunday after it got into difficulties in heavy fog in the north of the country.
Raisi was heading to the city of Tabriz, in the north west of Iran, after returning from an Iran-Azerbaijan border area, according to local media.
The incident sparked a massive search operation that was hampered by bad weather conditions. Read more

DR Congo army says it has thwarted attempted coup in Kinshasa (France24)
The DR Congo military on Sunday thwarted an attempted coup near the offices of President Felix Tshisekedi in Kinshasa involving “foreigners and Congolese”, the army spokesperson said.
The coup bid took place in the early hours outside the residence of economy minister Vital Kamerhe, in the Gombe area in the north of the capital, near president’s offices at the Palais de la Nation.
“An attempted coup d’etat has been stopped by the defence and security forces,” said General Sylvain Ekenge in a message broadcast on national television. Read more

Six people are dead and 10 others are injured following a car crash on an Idaho highway involving a passenger van.
On Saturday, May 18, at 5:29 a.m., an eastbound pickup truck on U.S. Highway 20 “was driven left of center” before colliding with a passenger van headed westbound, Idaho State Police confirmed in a release.
The van’s driver and five passengers died at the scene, according to authorities, while the pickup truck driver was transported to a local hospital. Nine other van passengers were transported to a local hospital as well, per police. Read more
Russian attacks on Ukraine’s Kharkiv region kill at least 11 people (AlJazeera)
Russia has struck a busy lakeside resort on the edge of Ukraine’s second-largest city Kharkiv and also attacked villages in the surrounding area, killing at least 11 people and wounding many others, Ukrainian authorities said.
The missile attacks are the latest by Russian forces in the Kharkiv region in recent weeks, as Moscow launched an offensive in the northeastern part of Ukraine earlier this month.
Six people – including a pregnant woman – were killed on the outskirts of Kharkiv city in a missile strike launched from Russia’s territory of Belgorod, Ukrainian authorities said. Read more
‘Portal’ installation linking Dublin and New York reopens after ‘inappropriate behaviour’ (NBC)
A livestream portal linking New York and Dublin reopened Sunday after it was briefly shut down last week amid reports of people flashing body parts, doing drugs on camera and trolling viewers on the other side.
The visual art exhibit dubbed “The Portal” features a pair of installations that each have a giant screen and a video camera, with one placed next to the Flatiron Building in New York and one on O’Connell Street, the Irish capital’s main thoroughfare. Each side of the portal broadcasts a livestream from its counterpart in the other city, enabling visitors on both sides to interact with each other in real time — as if the two cities were participating in a giant video call.

Osun football coach held by DSS for attempting to sodomize player (Punch)
A football coach working with a male football team in Osogbo, Osun State, simply identified as Adebisi, has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Security while attempting to sodomise one of his players.
Sources in the Isale Osun Area of Osogbo, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for safety reasons, said the suspect was arrested in the area last Wednesday by DSS operatives, who acted on tip-off.
It was further learned that Adebisi met the victim, identified simply as Michael during a training session at Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo, and took him to a secluded place, where he attempted to touch his genitals. Read more
