Police to prosecute Lagos estate owners over brutal attack on resident (Guardian)

The police high command is set to give justice to a Lagos estate subscriber who was allegedly rendered to crutches due to a brutal attack by his landlords and owners of Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited and Amen Estate.

Police spokesman, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi made the disclosure in the backdrop of speculations that the police was about to turn the victim to a suspect, which went viral on social media.

He dispelled the ‘rumour’ and noted that the police do not have reasons to change the Wheel of justice.

He assured that the victim, who is now rendered disabled due to a brutal attack, would get justice. Read more 

Airliner arrests stowaway at Lagos airport (Guardian)

Crew of the United Nigeria Airline (UNA), a local carrier, yesterday, arrested a stowaway at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

The development, which amounts to security breach in the air transport sector, has elicited calls for probe of the entire security architecture.

Head of Corporate Communications, UNA, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, said the middle-aged stowaway was found during pre-flight inspection, Sunday morning.

 Uchegbu said: “The middle-aged man, who looked unkempt and is suspected to be unconscious, was arrested and taken in for interrogation by the Aviation Security of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Bi-Courtney.” Read more 

Lagos task force arrests 5 armed suspects (Guardian)

The Lagos State Environmental and Enforcement and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) has dislodged a notorious land grabbing syndicate known for causing mayhem and disrupting developmental activities in Ibeju-Lekki axis of the state.

Chairman of the agency, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Shola Jejeloye, who led the team, at the weekend, disclosed that the crime syndicate is known for terrorising legitimate property owners and occupants within Sango-Tedo, Lakowe, Abijo and the entire environs of Ibeju Lekki.

He said “Omo-Onile have been warned on several occasions by the state government to desist from carrying out their inhumane acts, but this warning has fallen on deaf ears, as they continue to cause chaos in that axis, thus, the need to round them all up arose.

“Residents and victims of these land grabbers made complaints to the Task force which made us carry out our own investigation, leading to warnings being issued to them. It is quite unfortunate that they feel untouchable and daring, but with these actions carried out by us, they will learn to obey the laws of the state. There is no room for land grabbers in Lagos,” Jejeloye stated. Read more

Police arrest Ice Prince for abduction (Guardian)

Nigerian Hip Hop star Panshak Henry Zamani known as Ice Prince has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, for abducting, assaulting and threatening a police officer.

It was learned that at about 3a.m on Friday, the ‘Oleku’ and ‘Aboki’ crooner was flagged down by police officers for driving without a license plate.

Ice Prince was said to have initially agreed to be taken to the station immediately but ‘abducted the police officer’ in his car, assaulted him, and threatened to throw him in the lagoon.

Confirming the incident, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) Benjamin Hundeyin said the musician has been arrested and would be arraigned today. Read more

Lagos police nab traffic robber, stolen goods receivers (Guardian)

The Lagos State Police Command, Adeniji-Adele Division, has arrested a notorious gang member of traffic robbers for dispossessing motorists of their belongings at the Ilubirin end of the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

The suspect, Charles Igbadoh, was arrested following constant patrol by police officers in the area.

Further investigation led to the arrest of the receivers of the stolen goods, Odinaka Obiadu and Micheal Adeniyi.  

Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement, yesterday, said the suspects are assisting the police in an investigation aimed at arresting other criminal elements in the axis. Read more 

I needed money for baby items, says photographer arrested over car theft (Vanguard)

A 41-year-old robbery suspect, Sunakmi Adeoye, currently cooling off inside one of the cells at the Lagos State Police Command, has revealed that he went into crime for funds to purchase baby items for his pregnant wife.

According to Adeoye, who was arrested alongside Kamurudeen Kadiri, 30, and Owoseni Adekunle, 27, “Aro got me involved in the operation after I complained to him that I needed cash to take care of my pregnant wife, and also purchase baby items as she will soon put to bed.

“He told me we were going for a robbery operation and I agreed to be part of it because he assured me that I will get money from it. I am a photographer, but I need help.”

Explaining further, Adeoye said “It was Aro that introduced me to Kamurudeen and Owoseni. I didn’t know them before the robbery operation. Read more 

Mechanic missing in Lagos community, family panics (Punch)

The family of a 21-year-old Mechanic, Mutardoh Abdulsalam, has been panicking after he went missing on his way to work in the Ginti area of Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Mutardoh, who worked as a mechanic at Ginti, Ijede, left his home around 8am but did not return to his family.

Worried by the development, his family members, while searching for his whereabouts, visited his workplace where the victim’s boss and colleagues said Mutardoh never showed up at work.

Mutardoh’s mother, Idayatu, who spoke to our correspondent on Monday, said a cleric informed her that her son had been allegedly kidnapped. Read more

Lagos court remands man for sodomising minor (Punch)

A 28-year-old man, Algoni Mohammed, has been remanded for allegedly sodomising an 11-year-old minor in the Gbagada area of Lagos State.

Mohammed, who is facing one-count bordering on sexual assault, was arraigned before an Ogba Magistrate’s Court.

The charge read in part, “That you, Algoni Mohammed, sometimes in the month of June 2022, at Akinwunmi Street, Gbagada, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did have sexual intercourse with the minor by inserting your penis inside his anus.”

The prosecutor, Raji Kareem, said the offense was punishable under Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. Read more

Family tackles Lagos hospital over printer’s death (Punch)

The family of a printer, Tunji Adebara, has accused the management of the Ikorodu General Hospital of negligence resulting in his death at the medical facility in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Tunji, around 11pm, boarded a tricycle while heading home from work but had an accident at the Library bus stop, along the Ayangburen Road in Ikorodu.

Our correspondent learnt that the accident happened when the driver of a vehicle attempted to overtake the tricycle carrying the printer and other passengers.

While one of the passengers died on the spot, Tunji and two other passengers in the tricycle reportedly sustained varying degrees of injury. Read more

Arabic teacher remanded in prison for sodomising pupil (Punch)

A 28-year-old Arabic teacher, Mohammed Algoni, was on Monday remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly sodomising his 11-year-old pupil in the Ifako area of state.

The defendant was brought before the Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court on a charge of sodomy.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, said the victim, who was in an Arabic boarding school, came home for the Sallah break, and told his mother that he wasn’t going back to the school again.

Akeem also said the victim told his mother how the defendant, who was one of his teachers, had been allegedly sexually sodomising him. Read more

Lagos doctor allegedly rapes minor, groups demand justice (Punch)

A medical practitioner, identified simply as Olaleye, has been accused of raping his wife’s niece at their residence in Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim started living with the family of the medical practitioner after her father died.

Our correspondent gathered that the minor was living with Olaleye when he allegedly introduced her to pornography.

Afterwards, the medical practitioner, while taking advantage of the victim in his custody, allegedly deflowered her and threatened the victim against informing anyone. Read more 

34 suspects arraigned for defrauding Ghanaians in Lagos (Punch)

Thirty-four suspects have been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Ogba, Lagos State, for allegedly organising a travel scam to defraud two Ghanaians and other unsuspecting members of the public in the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the defendants including Esther Agyemang, Asare Sonia, Asare Boison and others at large reportedly lured some of the victims, who were said to be unemployed, from Ghana to Nigeria, on the promise of sending them to France and other European countries for job opportunities.

However, the victims including one Stephen Agyei-poku and Francis Atomani, after paying for the service, accused the suspects of defaulting in the agreement when they got to the Mazamaza area of Lagos State.

It was learnt that the victims reported to the police and some of the suspects including Agyemang, Sonia, Boison, alongside 31 others were arrested and charged to court. Read more

Lagos man arraigned for allegedly abducting 2 children (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command on Monday arraigned a 50-year-old man, Babatunde Rasak, before a Chief Magistrate’s Court, sitting in the Badagry area of the state, for allegedly attempting to abduct two children in the state.

The defendant is facing two counts bordering on abduction and breach of public peace.

During the proceedings, the prosecution counsel, ASP Clement Okuiomose, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 18, 2022, at the Comforter area, Oko-Afo, Badagry.

Okuiomose said the defendant allegedly attempted to abduct the complainant,  Ramota Bello’s two children by sneaking into her residence with no justifiable reason. Read more

Commercial motorcyclists, residents clash in Lagos community (Punch)

Commercial motorcyclists and residents around Obawole, in the Iju area of Lagos State, on Saturday, clashed and created tension that sent shivers down the spines of residents in the community.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the clash started when a commercial motorcyclist, who was plying the Awadun Street to navigate his destination in the community, rammed into the bumper of a car driven by the son of a landlord in the area.

After the collision, the landlord’s son, who was angered by the development, alighted from the vehicle to challenge the motorcyclist.

The challenge led to an argument that degenerated into a scuffle that attracted residents and other commercial motorcyclists of the Hausa ethnic group.

LASTMA apprehends 19 vehicles for contravening traffic regulations (Independent)

Due to the continuous perennial traffic gridlock experienced around Apongbon inward and outward Lagos Island, caused by indiscriminate parking of vehicles, garages and parks, 19 additional vehicles were again apprehended by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The General Manager, (LASTMA) Mr Bolaji Oreagba disclosed that the on-going total clampdown exercise embarked upon by the Authority was to generally ease off traffic flow to motorists particularly this approaching ‘Ember Months’ across the State.

Mr. Oreagba disclosed further that study conducted revealed that perennial traffic gridlock being experienced by motorists are caused by recalcitrant drivers who do not want to comply with the State Traffic Laws and Regulations.

He said that the on-going total Enforcement exercise which is expected to cover major identified spots is being coordinated by the Core Operations Commands (COC) from LASTMA Headquarters at Oshodi. Read more

Physically-Challenged Man arrested at Lagos Airport for drug trafficking (Independent)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has arrested a 53-year-old physically challenged man, Ehiarimwiam Osaromo Emmanuel at the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos for drug trafficking. 

Ehiarimwiam was arrested on Sunday 28th August on his way to Italy, via Doha on a Qatar Airways flight. The Edo state born indigene was found to have concealed five thousand (5,000) tablets of Tramadol 225mg in his luggage. 

According to a statement signed by the Agency’s Director, Media & Advocacy, Mr Femi Babafemi; “Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect is a frequent traveller who often travels with lots of bags containing mainly food items, body cream, hair attachment and drinks. 

“The suspect was said to have presented his usual large consignment to NDLEA operatives for search but held on to some packages, which were retrieved from him and properly searched during which the drugs were discovered. Read more
