Premier League is Manchester City’s to lose after Liverpool draw 2-2 with Chelsea

Premier League leaders Manchester City are one step closer to their fourth title in five seasons after their nearest rivals Liverpool and Chelsea drew 2-2 overnight.

City’s last-gasp 2-1 win at Arsenal on New Year’s Day had moved the reigning champions 11 points clear of Chelsea in second and 12 in front of third-placed Liverpool ahead of the latter pair’s meeting at Stamford Bridge.

Despite Liverpool’s coach Jürgen Klopp, goalkeeper Alisson, striker Roberto Firmino, and defender Joel Matip all missing the match after tested positive for COVID-19, the Reds looked set to close the gap on City after racing into an early 2-0 lead.

Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah put Liverpool in command inside 26 minutes, scoring their final goals before departing the club to take part in the African Cup of Nations tournament. (ABC)
