PSC retires Adeleke, 3 other senior DIGs (Nation)

The Police Service Commission (PSC) had announced the compulsory retirement of four Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) who were senior to the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun before his elevation by President Bola Tinubu.

The affected officers by the compulsory retirement include DIGs Dan-Mallam Mohammed, Moses Ambakina Jitiboh, Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa and Adeleke Adeyinka Bode.

A statement issued on Monday, August 28, by the spokesman for the commission, Ikechukwu Ani, said the senior officers were expected to put in their resignation from service following the appointment of their junior as IGP in line with the revered tradition of discipline and regimented culture of the police. Tinubu gives ministers marching order to revive economy — FEC (Tribune)

President Bola Tinubu on Monday gave the Federal Executive Council (FEC) a marching order to marshal the revival of the economy and make life more bearable for the people.

The maiden council meeting he presided over at the Council Chambers of the presidential villa in Abuja, considered the “Roadmap for the economy” presented by the minister of finance and coordinating minister for the economy, Wale Edun.

Speaking on the issue at the post-FEC press briefing, Edun said the council agreed that the economy is not where it should be. Read more

Lagos State House of Assembly has insisted on its decision to drop 17 cabinet nominees sent by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for screening and approval.

Recall that the House had last Wednesday, confirmed 22 out of the 39 cabinet nominees sent by Governor Sanwo-Olu, rejecting 17 nominees.

Lagos directs schools to resume 2023/2024 academic year on September 4 (Guardian)

Lagos State government has directed all schools below the tertiary level to resume on Monday, September 4, 2023, in compliance with the Y 2023/2024 Harmonised academic school calendar as approved by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic Education.

The Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni made this known in a statement on Monday by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs (OEQA), Adepeju Adeyemi.

She urged all schools to ensure strict compliance with the resumption date for delivery of quality and sustainable education in the state. Read more

Tinubu bars FG officials with no direct UNGA participation from travelling (DailyTrust)

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to freeze the processing of visas for all government officials seeking to travel to New York for the United Nations General Assembly without proof of direct participation in UNGA’s official schedule of activities.

His spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement on Monday, said the directive was part of a broader effort to reduce the cost of governance in Nigeria.

He said to prevent any sharp practice in this regard, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria was accordingly guided on official visa processing while Nigeria’s Permanent Mission in New York is further directed to prevent and stop the accreditation of any government official who is not placed on the protocol lists forwarded by the approving authority. Police arrest 116 suspected cultists in Ogun State (Channels)

Men of the Ogun State Police Command, at the weekend, arrested 116 suspected cult members in the Ifo area of the state.

This was contained in a statement issued by the command in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The union said the group wanted to hide under the guise of staging a protest against the just concluded 10th Quadrennial National Delegate Conference of the union which was held in Lafia Nasarawa State on Wednesday, August 23rd, 2023 to cause crisis and unleash mayhem on the FCT residents.

Mitchel Musso, who played Oliver Oken on the hit Disney Channel show Hannah Montana, was arrested in Texas on charges of public intoxication and theft on Saturday.

At around 7:15 p.m., “a disturbance” was reported at a hotel in the 2600 block of Lakefront Trail in Rockwall, Texas, the Rockwall Police Department said in a press release obtained by PEOPLE. The complainant told officers that a seemingly intoxicated person walked into the hotel, “selected a bag of chips and began eating them.”

“When the subject was asked to pay for them, he became verbally abusive and left without rendering payment,” the statement continued, adding that “officers contacted the subject outside the hotel,” who was identified as Musso, 32. Read more
