#RevolutionNow: Protest capable of causing uncontrollable crisis, says Uche Nwosu (Nation)
The governorship candidate on the platform of Action Alliance (AA) in Imo, Mr Uche Nwosu, has urged Nigerians to shun the call for “RevolutionNow” protest saying it is capable of causing uncontrollable crisis in the country. Nwosu gave the advice in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Friday while reacting to the protest organised by Mr Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of African Alliance Congress (AAC) and Publisher of Sahara Reporters. He called for support for President Mohammadu Buhari from all Nigerians by contributing their quotas, rather than embarking on a revolution. Read more
Tekno stripper video: Police grill owner of display truck (Punch)
The Lagos State police command has grilled the owner of the display truck rented by musician, Tekno, to shoot a music video with half-dressed women in Lagos. It was learnt that the owner of the truck, Stanley Ugboha, who was grilled at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, told the police that he did not know that Tekno was planning to use his truck for the obscene act. Ugboha, it was learnt, was granted bail along with others who were interrogated. Read more

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila has urged Nigerian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia to pray for the country’s unity as they join Muslims globally to observe Arafat. Gbajabiamila made the plea in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Lanre Lasisi, on Friday. The Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property (SPIP) is to panel with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), to recover tax revenues from companies who hitherto have been evading payment. Ms Lucie-Ann Laha, the panel spokesperson in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, said that the Panel Chairman, Mr Okoi Obono-Obla, made this known when he received Mr Tunde Fowler, the FIRS Chairman on a visit. Ogun police arrest murder suspect five months after (Punch)
Men of Ogun State Police Command have arrested a fleeing murder suspect, Nureni Oladosu, popularly known as Otelee over the murder of two persons in Iwoye Village via Ilaro five months ago. The suspect reportedly killed one Onifade Ajani with a dane gun on March 27 2019, for yet-to-be known reason. Oladosu also reportedly killed another person, Olatunji Ayinla while the people in the community were trying to apprehend him for killing Ajani. Read more
US shootings: Trump says ‘serious’ talks on gun control under way (BBC)
US President Donald Trump says “serious discussions” are taking place between congressional leaders on “meaningful” background checks for gun owners following two mass shootings. Man used nail scissors to try and stab fellow passenger’s neck (Metro)
A man asked ‘do you want to die tonight?’ as he launched an attack on a fellow passenger on a train home. Paryce Duncan, 24, armed himself with a pair of nail scissors and attacked his victim at random on a train from London Bridge to Norwood Junction. The target, a man in his 20s, was sat on his own listening to music when Duncan approached and punched him just after midnight on April 18 last year. Read more
UK economy shrinks for the first time since 2012 (BBC)
The chancellor has told the BBC that he does not expect the UK to slide into recession after data showed the economy shrank by 0.2% between April and June. Sajid Javid was speaking after the Office for National Statistics said the economy had contracted for the first time since 2012. The surprise decline came after Brexit stockpiles were unwound and the car industry implemented shutdowns. The pound slid after the data was released, raising fears of a recession. Read more

Russian Arctic panic-buying over rocket accident radiation (BBC)
There has been panic-buying of medical iodine in Russia’s far north, following a brief radiation spike linked to a rocket accident, Russian media report. Pharmacies’ stocks of iodine are reported to be running out in the cities of Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk. Mexico violence: Nine bodies found hanging from bridge (BBC)
Mexican police have found the bodies of nine people hanging from a bridge and seven more corpses hacked up and dumped on the road. The massacre in the city of Uruapan in the western Michoacán state is thought to be gang-related, prosecutors say. A banner hanging from the bridge reportedly bore the initials of one of Mexico’s most powerful drug cartels. Read more

Doctors had told Mollie Wincott, 22, that her three-year-old daughter Mia might never be able to walk. The little girl suffers from Joubert Syndrome, a genetic brain development disorder which hinders her ability to walk and speak. Payal, a constable from Uttar Pradesh, first met Rahul Tharasana (30), a gangster, at a court in Greater Noida where his case was being heard. Two people found guilty of taking photos of dead soccer player, Sala (Punch)
Two workers from a British CCTV firm pleaded guilty on Friday to accessing graphic mortuary footage, later circulated on social media, of the body of the late Argentine soccer player Emiliano Sala, who was killed in a plane crash in January.
