Banker charged with stealing N553,500 from customers (Nation)
A 35-year-old Accounts Officer with ACCION Microfinance Bank, Bashiru Odunukan, who allegedly stole N553,500 from customers, was on Thursday brought before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Odunukan, whose address was not provided, is facing a count charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Thomas Nurudeen, said that the accused committed the offence from November 2017 to October 2018 at the Anthony Village branch of the bank in Lagos. Read more
Man sets woman, three children ablaze (Guardian)
A middle-aged man, Shola Adewumi, has been arrested for allegedly setting his estranged lover and her three children on fire at the Abule Egba area of Lagos State.
Police said the suspect was allegedly traced to his hideout through one of his phones, which was found at the scene of the crime.
The victims, Bose Enitan, (mother), Nifemi, aged five, Ayo, aged nine, and Esther, aged 17, sustained serious wounds as a result of the fire. Read more
Police inspector’s wife charged with biting off sergeant’s ear (Nation)
A Police Inspector’s wife, Lydia Uwadiegwu, who allegedly bit off part of a female sergeant’s ear, was on Wednesday brought before an Ogba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Uwadiegwu, 25, whose husband was said to be attached to the Olosan Police Division, Mushin, Lagos, was arraigned alongside three other women: Ughaelunachi Justina, 61; Oladimeji Seun, 30; and Chinelo Okoh, 30.
They are standing trial before Mrs. Adeyemi Ajayi on a five-count charge of conspiracy, aiding and abetting, assault and giving false information to the Police. Read more
Man in court for allegedly filming policemen on duty (Punch)
A 41-year-old man, Annibong Annankwu, charged with filming policemen while they were performing their lawful duty, on Thursday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, whose occupation was not disclosed, was charged with two counts of assault and breach of peace.
Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Kenrich Nomayo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on November 28 at Ojota, Lagos. Read more
Police nab man, Muslim clerics with human heart, body parts (Guardian)
The Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested a man with a fresh human heart. Also in the command’s net is four others, including three Muslim clerics (Alfas) with several portions of human flesh.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, comprising Lagos and Ogun states commands, AIG Lawal Shehu, who paraded the suspects Tuesday, said through stop and search, detectives picked a man with a fresh human heart and the police are still investigating to know how the suspect came about the heart.
AIG Shehu added that three Muslim clerics and one other, who are members of a syndicate specialising in using human parts for rituals, have also been nabbed by the police. Read more
Three boys ‘gang-rape’ girl, 8 (Nation)
Three teenagers were Monday remanded in Kirikiri Prison by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court following their arraignment for allegedly gang-raping a teenage girl.
Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat rejected their bail application and ordered that they be kept in custody.
They are Wasiu Lawal, 18, Tosin Taoreed, 18, and Peter Joseph, 19, who reside in Ikate, Ajah, Lagos. Read more
Two charged with kidnapping siblings (Nation)
Two women, Bose Kola, 19, and Deborah Ekola, 25, Tuesday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly conspiring to kidnap two siblings.
Chief Magistrate A.O. Adedayo remanded the duo at the Kirikiri Prisons, pending advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Adedayo had rejected the bail application her by their counsel F.S. Oladele. Read more
Man in court for impregnating 12-year-old girl (Guardian)
An Ikeja High Court has arraigned a 40-year-old businessman identified as Nwanne Nwaora for allegedly defiling and impregnating his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter.
According to the prosecution, Nwaora defiled the pupil in November 2015 in her parents’ apartment. He is alleged to have lured his victim’s brother out of the apartment by sending him on an errand.
After the incident, the defendant allegedly threatened to kill the pupil if she revealed it to anyone. Few months later, the pupil’s mother noticed changes in her body and confronted her, thereby making her to reveal what happened. Read more
Driver lynched for ‘killing’ passenger as police rescue conductor (Nation)
A commercial bus driver was Tuesday morning lynched by a mob for allegedly stabbing a passenger to death.
The incident occurred around 7am at Five Star Bus Stop, along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
It was gathered that the bus driver had allegedly stabbed a passenger who demanded his N50 change by a bank near Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) office, along Osolo Way. Read more
Woman allegedly assaults two policemen with broken bottle (Punch)
A 49-year-old trader, Modinat Adebayo, who allegedly assaulted two policemen with broken plates and bottles, on Thursday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, who lives at No. 25, Koya Akinwale St., Baruwa-Ipaja, Lagos, is charged with conspiracy and assault.
The prosecutor, Inspector Rachael Williams, told the court that the accused allegedly assaulted Sgt. Ngbede Ichigboja and Cpl. Folajimi Adeniyi, with broken plates and bottles. Read more
Pastor remanded for ‘defiling’ twins (Nation)
An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court Monday remanded a 54-year-old pastor, Michael Olise, in Kirikiri Prison for allegedly defiling 12-year-old twins.
Olise, a friend to the twins’ father, is facing a two-count charge of child defilement before Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi.
The defendant is said to be a pastor at Anointing Chosen Vessel, Governor’s Road, Ikotun, Lagos. Read more
