Robbers attack Lagos community, shoot plantain hawker (Punch)
A yet-to-be-identified male plantain vendor has been injured and hospitalised after being shot by suspected armed robbers on Governor’s Road in the Isheri Olofin area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident which happened on Sunday at about 1pm caused panic in the area.
It was gathered that the armed men numbering about 10 invaded the community to rob a newly opened restaurant. Read more
Man jailed 2 years for possessing fake dollars (Punch)
A Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Yaba area of Lagos State has sentenced a man, Abubakar Sodiq, to two years imprisonment for allegedly possessing fake $400 in the Idumota area of the state.
The 25-year-old convict was first arraigned before Magistrate A.O Salawu on August 8, 2023.
The prosecutor, Godwin Oriabure, told the court that on August 1, 2023, at Idumota, Sodiq allegedly went to one Buhari, a scrap collector, with fake dollars worth N250,000 for exchange and succeeded. Therefore, on the same day, he returned with another fake 400 dollars but unfortunately, Buhari caught the attention of the public and he was caught. Read more
Soldiers arrest man linked to Plateau killing in Lagos (Punch)
Soldiers attached to Operation Safe Haven Tactical Team of the Nigerian Army have arrested the alleged killer of the Ardo of Panyam in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, Adamu Gabdo, in Lagos State.
This was disclosed in a post on the official X handle of the Nigerian Army on Wednesday.
According to the Army, Philip Gokas, also known as Jaykimo, was tracked and arrested in the Ogba area of Lagos State, where he was found having fun at a football viewing centre. Read more
Court jails 2 drug traffickers 10 years (Punch)
The Federal High Court in Lagos, on Monday, sentenced two drug traffickers, Suleiman Tunde and Salami Babatunde, to 10 years imprisonment each for trafficking 25.10 kilograms of Ephedrine, a prohibited drug.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo handed down the sentence after the convicts pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy and trafficking in the banned substance.
Meanwhile, another alleged drug trafficker who was arraigned alongside the convicts, Edet Matthew, denied the offence and pleaded not guilty to the charge. Read more
Navy busts crude theft on Lagos vandalised pipeline (Punch)
The Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft has discovered and halted the siphoning of petrol from an oil pipeline at Atlas Cove, Lagos belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
The Commander, NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Sub. Lt. Happiness Collins.

Lagos ‘‘Pastor’’, 1 other arrested for stealing $500 (DailyTrust)
A self-acclaimed pastor, simply identified as Moses, who is a Bureau de Change (BDC) operator, and one other person have been arrested for allegedly stealing $500 belonging to a customer in Lagos.
The first suspect was alleged to have removed $500 from a bunch of $5,000 which was given to him to convert by one Lookman at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, at the weekend.
In his statement to the police, the self-acclaimed pastor admitted stealing the $500, saying, “I was only given N10,000 at the end of the whole transaction. We agreed to settle the matter amicably.” Read more
Bricklayer bags life jail for defiling 13-year-old girl (DailyTrust)
An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday sentenced a bricklayer, Gabriel Awaye, to life in prison twice for defiling a 13-year-old girl in his room.
Justice Abiola Soladoye held that the prosecution proved the ingredients of the two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault against Awaye.
Soladoye said that the defendant, by his audacious sexual recklessness, was not fit to be in the community of civilised people and should be locked away for life.
Mohbad: Naira Marley, Sammy Larry granted bail (Nation)
Singer Abdulazeez Fashola, alias Naira Marley, and Lagos socialite, Samson Eletu, a.k.a. Sam Larry, have been granted bail by a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State.
They, however, have to provide three sureties with a sum of N20 million to process their release.
The magistrate had ordered the remand of Naira Marley and Sam Larry in police custody for 21 days over the death of 27-year-old Mohbad, who died in September. Read more
Teacher accused of sexually assaulting seven-year old pupil (Nation)
An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court heard yesterday how a teacher, Ngozi Igwe, allegedly assaulted a seven-year-old pupil in the classroom.
The teacher is facing a lone count charge bordering on sexual assault by penetration before Justice Rahman Oshodi.
Led in evidence by the state counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, the JS2 pupil, now 12 years old, who testified virtually, told the court that the incident happened when she was seven years old and the defendant was her teacher in primary three. Read more
NDLEA bursts drug cartel, seizes 14.4m pills of opioids in Lagos raids (Vanguard)
Operatives of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have bursted and recovered 14, 481,519 pills of Tramadol and bottles of codeine syrup with a stress value at over N13 billion.
Spokesman of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, while confirming the operation, said the burst was achieved against three major drug cartels operating in Amuwo Odofin, Idumota and the SAHCO shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
He said: “The three intelligence-led operations began with the raid of House 8/10 Hon. Wahuha Avenue, Divine Estate, Ago Palace area of Amuwo Odofin on October 29, where 490,000 pills of tramadol and 81,519 bottles of codeine syrup measuring 4, 510, 000mls were recovered. Read more
Lagos riverine community alleges invasion by Police, landgrabbers (Vanguard)
Residents of Ibasa Ijegun-Egba riverine community in Oriade Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Lagos State, have cried out over the invasion of the town by Police officers from Zone 2 and land grabbers over unverified allegations.
