Rocking the Daisies 2022: Rapper Blxckie and DBN Gogo unveiled as first acts

Rocking the Daisies has revealed the first local act for this year’s festival.

The iconic music festival announced its return earlier this month after a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. For the first time, it will take place in both Cape Town and Johannesburg over the weekend of 7 – 9 October.

South Africa’s larger-than-life, genre-bending golden child, BLXCKIE, is the first of the handful of local talent taking up the #JWxRTD22 line-up.

Somnyama, as he is affectionately known by peers and fans alike, began his meteoric rise in 2020 during lockdown. He has since commanded the attention of music listeners globally, dominated the charts across hip hop, Amapiano and pop, and is set to embark on an international tour in November 2022, alongside J Cole’s juggernaut record label Dreamville duo, Earthgang.

“At the core of the Steyn Entertainment company values, our plight is primarily concerned with empowering and stimulating the South African entertainment landscape, especially post-pandemic where the industry is attempting to pick itself up after the profound knock it’s taken,” says General Manager, Shannon Valstar in a statement.

“We are extremely proud of the incredible international talent that the Rocking in the Daisies stage has been able to attract over the past decade and will continue to create the kind of environment where robust and meaningful cultural exchange between artists and fans of different countries and continents is encouraged to thrive.”

With that said, with the current global musical renaissance happening – being led by Africa – it has never been more palpable that we are producing art parallel to the best in the world. In 2022, not only will Rocking the Daisies be presenting electrifying talent from across the globe, our stages will be co-headlined by local artists as well.

The festival will unveil a carousel of additional major local names via its Instagram platform on Monday, 23 May. Followers are prompted to like the post announcing the initial wave of SA co-headliners, and upon every 1500 likes reached, a new artist from the #JWxRTD22 line-up will be revealed to fans. (News24)
