Sanwo-Olu promises to help resuscitate National Stadium (Guardian)
The Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the weekend pledged to help resuscitate the National Stadium at Surulere to the benefit of the residents, especially the youth.
Speaking during the Lagos leg of Sports Minister, Sunday Dare’s tour of sporting facilities owned by the Federal Government, Sanwo-Olu lamented the state of the stadium, saying it had been left unused and promised to work with the sports ministry to ensure it was brought back to good use for everyone.
“We’ve seen the state of negligence, disuse at the National Stadium, Surulere. What we are taking away from here is that we have agreed to work with the ministry. We have indicated interest even from now, who we want to help manage and bring back the dead asset that we have here and turn it into a viable asset for our teeming youths and for the total population that reside in Surulere. UNILAG raises task force to check sexual harassment (PMNews)
The University of Lagos has set up a task force to address issues of sexual harassment with a view to stemming the ugly tide.
The university’s Principal Assistant Registrar for Communication, Mrs Taiwo Oloyede, said in a statement that the move“is in continuation of the institution’s unrelenting campaign against the menace of sexual harassment and other forms of inappropriate behaviours.
The institution recently suspended two senior lecturers exposed in alleged sexual harassment in a BBC investigative documentary video, ‘African Eye’. Read more
Six illegal immigrants arrested at Nigeria border (Guardian)
The operatives of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service have arrested six illegal migrants at Idiroko borders in the state.
“When you aid unknown people into your country, without even knowing their aim, it is a big risk,” the comptroller of immigration, Doris Braimah said on Tuesday while parading the suspects.
“It is actually called security threat.”
The illegal immigrants were being smuggled in by two Nigerians through one of the country’s major borders in the state when the officers intercepted them. Read more

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed five bills passed by the 8th National Assembly into law, Mr Umar Yakubu, his Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives) has said.
Yakubu who made the announcement at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja said that the Acts were to ensure good governance in the country.
The bills include the Obafemi Awolowo University Transitional Amendment Act, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi Amendment Act, the University of Maiduguri Amendment Act, the National Fertiliser Quality Control Act and the Nigerian Council of Food Science and Technology Establishment Act.
