Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to enhance professionalism among civil servants and public servants within the state. Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), led by its President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Olusegun Mojeed, at the Lagos House, Marina, the governor emphasised the significance of their partnership.
Sanwo-Olu, who previously served as the commissioner for establishment, pensions and training, stressed the need to instil professionalism across various cadres within the civil service. He praised the CIPM’s role in achieving this goal, stating, “I am happy that that trajectory has continued, and we will continue to see a lot of civil servants and public servants taking professional examinations of the institute.”
The Governor expressed his belief in the CIPM certification as a means to elevate professionalism within the civil service, particularly in the Human Resources cadre, preventing it from becoming an all-comers cadre.
In addition, Sanwo-Olu discussed the Institute’s upcoming 55th-anniversary celebration, which will be held in Abuja, and expressed his enthusiasm to attend as the Special Guest of Honour. He commended CIPM’s role over the past decade in contributing to the professional landscape in both the public and private sectors.
During the visit, Olusegun Mojeed, President of CIPM, praised Sanwo-Olu’s administration for its good governance and remarkable performance in improving the lives of Lagosians. He acknowledged the administration’s milestones and significant projects aimed at enhancing the well-being of the people and furthering the progress of Lagos.
Mojeed also used this opportunity to request the Governor’s support in recognizing and including CIPM certifications in the Lagos State Scheme of Service, thereby solidifying the partnership between the state government and the institute.
The reaffirmed commitment to professionalism and the continued partnership between the Lagos State Government and CIPM signifies a positive step towards improving the quality of the state’s civil service and fostering a greater sense of professionalism among its workforce.
