The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has received South-West governors, who are currently in Lagos for their zonal meeting.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, accompanied by his deputy, Kadri Hazmat, received Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Ademola Adeleke of Osun, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State at the Lagos House, Ikeja.
The meeting by the South-West Governors Forum, is expected to address issues affecting the zone, the new national minimum wage and Nigeria as a whole. Read more
Scrap dealers in Nigeria take action against vandalism (Sun)
The National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria has called for greater synergy with security operatives in the country to combat vandalism.
The association also announced its decision to embark on data capturing of all its members. This initiative aims to properly identify everyone involved in the scrap and waste collection business nationwide.
The association’s founding fathers stated that this decision was made to differentiate legitimate members from suspected criminals who may be using the scrap collection business as a cover. Read more
Cybercrime: Technical team to pay working visit to London, as NPF-NCCC, UK-NCA synergize (Vanguard)
The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) and the National Crime Agency (NCA) of United Kingdom are to collaborate in tackling emerging and latest cybercrime trends in the world.
This partnership was consummated when the Director NPF-NCCC, Commissioner of Police (CP) Ifeanyi Henry Uche, who doubles as Chairman INTERPOL Africa Working Group on Cybercrime, led a technical team on a working visit to the National Crime Agency headquarters in London.
According to the Centre, “this important meeting focused on enhancing international inter-agency cooperation, facilitating seamless communication, and training of officers on combating latest cybercrime trends”. Read more
Gov Fintiri reshuffles Cabinet in Adamawa (Leadership)
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri on Monday reshuffled his cabinet in an exercise targeted at maximising the team’s strengths and improve services to the people of the state.
Announcing the cabinet rejig on Monday in Yola, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, said the changes which affected four ministries is with immediate effect.
Wonosikou disclosed that former Commissioner for Information, Neido Geoffrey Kufulto has now been reassigned as the Commissioner for Women Affairs, while the former Commissioner for Entrepreneurship, James Iliya takes over from Kufulto. Read more
Arduous task awaits Lagos Parks Monitoring Committee (Independent)
Over a week ago, Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation reconstituted and inaugurated, Removal of Abandoned Vehicles and Park Monitoring Committees in the State to support Traffic Management Personnel, improve traffic flow across the state, and ensure orderliness at motor parks.
Speaking during the inauguration, Hon. Giwa stated that the Park Monitoring Committee’s responsibility is to ensure orderliness across parks, prevent use and sale of alcohol and other related substances in the park, to clamp down on illegal parks and illegal commuter operations among others.
He reiterated the State Government’s resolve to ensure the free flow of traffic and the safety of lives and properties, in accordance with the Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL),2018. Read more
Reps seek 6-year single term for President, Governors (DailyTrust)
A group of members of the House of Representatives under the aegis of ‘Reform Minded Lawmakers’ has called for a single term of six years for President and Governors among other electoral reforms as contained in various bills presented before the House.
The lawmakers made the call at a press conference in Abuja on Monday.
Rep. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere said constitutional and electoral reform had been a burning topic in Nigeria since independence from Britain in 1960, noting that over the past 50 years, the controversy had led to unrest and deepened religious and ethnic divides. Read more

Group flays Makinde over statement on Olubadan-designate (ThisDay)
A socio-cultural organisation in Ibadanland, Oyo State, Ibile G-7, yesterday condemned a statement credited to the state Governor, Seyi Makinde, on the enthronement of the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
The group in a statement issued by its President, who is a former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lanre Ogundipe, and Secretary, Jide Olaniyonu, described the alleged comments by Makinde as unfortunate, and one that could lead to dissatisfaction in the ancient city.
It would be recalled that Makinde last Saturday allegedly said Olakulehin, who is the current Balogun of Ibadanland, would be installed as the 43rd Olubadan when he is strong enough to complete the installation processes. Read more

Microsoft kicked off its annual Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday (June 9), unveiling a new all-digital version of its Xbox Series X and S consoles as well as trailers for more than a dozen games including the next installment of Call of Duty.
The Games Showcase comes at a crucial time for Xbox and Microsoft as the gaming industry faces a downturn and publishers grapple with softer sales, layoffs and studio shutdowns.

Benny Gantz, a key member of Israel’s war cabinet and longtime rival of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, announced his resignation from Netanyahu’s government on Sunday evening. The announcement came after an ultimatum by Gantz three weeks ago, demanding — among other things — that Netanyahu come up with a plan to replace Hamas in Gaza by June 8.

Haiti’s newly selected Prime Minister Garry Conille was discharged from a hospital Sunday after spending a night in treatment for an undisclosed condition.
In a video published on YouTube, Conille said he felt well and was ready to continue to help steer the country out of its current security crisis by forming a government that will also prioritize issues like health care.
In his video, Conille said: “The whole time I was at the hospital, I was thinking of something: People that need to go to the general hospital can’t get there (due to widespread violence). People who need health care can’t afford it.” Read more
Drama as Rangers, Enyimba match abandoned after pitch invasion (Punch)
There was drama in Enugu on Sunday during the highly-anticipated Nigeria Premier Football League match-day 35 game between Enugu Rangers and reigning champions Enyimba, as the game was abandoned deep into stoppage time as a result of fans invasion, The PUNCH reports.
With the game still goalless in added time, centre referee John Ojeleye awarded the home side a penalty but the away fans were said to have invaded the pitch in protest, leaving the game abandoned.

Three Valencia fans have been sentenced to eight months in prison, the first conviction for racism at a football match in Spain as a direct result of a complaint filed by La Liga.
The racist chants were aimed at Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr during a La Liga game at Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium on 21 May 2023.
The fans were found guilty of a “crime against moral integrity” with “aggravating circumstances of discrimination based on racist motives”. Read more

Verstappen started second in the rain alongside pole-sitter George Russell and dominated late again at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Ile Notre-Dame. The 26-year-old Dutchman has a staggering 50 victories in the last 75 F1 races.
Verstappen finished 3.879 seconds ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris in the 70-lap race on the 2.71-mile (4.36-kilometer) road course. Last year, Verstappen started from the pole and led every lap. Read more
Sir Bradley Wiggins may be forced to sell Olympic medals after going bankrupt (Telegraph)
Sir Bradley Wiggins could be forced to sell all of his Olympic medals, as well as the other trophies and memorabilia he accrued over the course of his career, after the former Tour de France winner was declared bankrupt in court.
Wiggins, 44, who retired in 2016 having won eight Olympic medals, five of them gold, became the first British rider to win the Tour in 2012. He went on to open the London Games that summer, famously ringing the bell to signal the start of an opening ceremony that was beamed out to a global audience of hundreds of millions.
Wiggins won the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year trophy later that year, and was knighted in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to cycling. Read more
