Sanwo-Olu tasks citizens on managing commercial, industrial wastes (Independent)
Lagos – In his efforts to ensure that Lagos averts the risk of being overrun by wastes, the state governor has tásked citizens to collectively deal with the large amounts of domestic, commercial and industrial waste generated daily across the city.
At the formal launch of the Financial Center for Sustainability, Lagos (FC4S Lagos), on Friday in Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu noted that as a coastal city, on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, “Lagos is at the mercy of rising sea levels. Our traffic situation means that the population is at the mercy of unchecked levels of emissions arising from the largest concentration of automobiles in Nigeria.” Read more
Police arraign 2 fuel attendants for allegedly stealing N100m (Guardian)
The police on Friday arraigned two fuel attendants who allegedly stole N100 million from a fuel station in an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded a clergyman, Israel Philip, in Kirikiri Prisons for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s daughter.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr P.E Nwaka, refused to listen to Philip’s plea and ordered him to be remanded in prison until Nov. 4 for an advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions. Read more
Woman fakes own, son’s kidnap, seeks N500K ransom from husband (Punch)
A housewife, Mrs. Odunayo Olaniyi, has faked her own kidnap and that of her 10-year-old son, seeking a ransom of half a million naira from her husband.
Consequently, a Chief Magistrates’ court sitting in Ilorin on Friday ordered that she be remanded in a correctional centre.
The Police arraigned Odunayo Olaniyi, Abdulrauf Folorunso, and Afolabi Adesina on three counts of self-kidnap, false representation and asking for ransom. Read more
NDLEA arrests 42 suspected drug offenders (Guardian)
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said on Friday that it arrested 42 suspected drug offenders in Oyo State between July and September.
Mrs Mutiat Okuwobi, the Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA in the state, made this known in a statement in Ibadan.
Okuwobi also said that drugs weighing 1201.902kg were seized during the period. Read more

Marte, a local government in northern Borno, is totally deserted, the chairman of the council, Alhaji Ali Shettima has cried out.

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), said yesterday that 90 per cent of cars in Nigeria were smuggled into the country by unscrupulous elements.

Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, Thursday called for the prosecution of builders found culpable in building collapse incidents in any part of the country, describing such action as the only way to send a strong message to builders to comply with the national building standards.
Fashola, who spoke in his office in Abuja while hosting members of the National Building Code Advisory Committee who paid him a courtesy visit, said where an investigation has been concluded in any event of building collapse and someone was found not to have complied to any of the building standards, such a person should be prosecuted as an example to others. Nigeria police arrests comedian for spreading fake news (Guardian)
The Nigeria police on said it had arrested a comedian, Augustine Valentine, popularly known as `MC Fine’, for alleged spread of fake news.
Biodun Makanjuola, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the force in Bwari, FCT, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), that Valentine posted a false report on facebook alleging the apprehension of a female kidnapper.
“After investigation, we found the report to be fake,” he said. Read more

90 footballers screened for new football club, Amen FC (DailyTrust)
Ninety amateur and professional footballers across Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon participated in a 3-day screening exercise to select new crop of players for a new football club in Cross River State. The new football club, known as Amen Boys, is to be formally registered with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) later in the year. The screening exercise which started on Wednesday, 2 October will climaxed on Saturday 5 October 2019 at the St Patrick College Calabar.
