Yusuf Abubakar, a scavenger who specialises in picking used plastic, has reportedly lost one of his arms after he and his colleagues were attacked by hoodlums in Isara, Remo, in the Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Abubakar, a resident of the Toll Gate area in Ogere Remo, was in the community with his colleagues to collect used plastics when the hoodlums attacked them with weapons.
According to Abubakar, about 20 hoodlums carried out the attack. While his colleagues managed to escape, Abubakar fell while trying to flee from his assailants.
Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that Abubakar was dragged by his attackers into a forest, tied to a tree, and had his arm severed. Odutola said, “According to Abubakar, he arrived in Ogun State three days ago. At about 8:00 AM on January 6, 2025, he and two others were in the Sapade area to pick up used plastic water bottles when approximately 20 armed hoodlums suddenly began pursuing them with dangerous weapons.” (Guardian)
