The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Director General, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, is set to headline the 3rd National Conference organised by Oriental News Nigeria. Scheduled for July 25, 2024, at Radisson Blu GRA Ikeja, Lagos, this pivotal event aims to dissect key policies and options to bolster Nigeria’s economy while aligning with the global push towards a green economy.
Under the theme “Green Economy, Sustainable Growth, and Infrastructure Transformation,” the conference will gather a diverse array of stakeholders, including policymakers, industry experts and representatives from both governmental and non-governmental organisations. The event is poised to provide a comprehensive examination of Nigeria’s green economy initiative, focusing on sustainable development and growth strategies.
Dr. Agama, a confirmed speaker, emphasises the immense opportunities a green economy presents. He highlights sectors such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, ecotourism and coastal development as key areas ripe for growth and innovation. His insights will be crucial as Nigeria looks to leverage its natural resources to spearhead green economy development.
The conference is structured into two main segments. The morning session will feature keynote addresses, including Dr. Agama’s, and discussions revolving around the core theme. This will be followed by a round-table segment where select professionals will engage in deeper dialogues on sub-themes like Green Finance, Renewable Energy and Digital Economy Entrepreneurship.
In recent years, global economies have faced a slowdown due to structural and cyclical factors. Efforts to counter recession and spur rapid economic growth have often come at the cost of environmental sustainability, contributing to global warming and other ecological issues. The transition to a green economy aims to reverse this trend by boosting natural capital, safeguarding the environment, and ensuring social justice. This paradigm shift, however, is not without its challenges, including inadequate policy frameworks, insufficient capital investment, and varying levels of development across regions.
Addressing these challenges requires innovative business models, strategic resource utilization, cleaner business practices, and advanced green technologies. The conference will serve as a critical platform for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to exchange ideas, share experiences, and collaborate on solutions to these pressing issues. The round-table discussions will aim to identify actionable policies and practices that can drive sustainable growth and development.
Yemisi Izuora, Publisher of Oriental News Nigeria, underscores the importance of this gathering in fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange. “The conference will enable academic peers and industry leaders to develop management solutions to pressing business challenges, ensuring a comprehensive approach to green economic development,” she said.
The 3rd National Conference is not just an event but a crucial step towards realising Nigeria’s potential in leading global green economy initiatives.
