The Senate has reportedly confirmed the nomination of Justice Tanko Mohammad as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan announced the confirmation on Wednesday at the plenary few minutes after Mohammad was screened by the lawmakers.
Moving away from tradition, the lawmakers of the 9th Senate unanimously agreed to go into a closed-door session to screen Justice Muhammad rather than during plenary as has been the custom over the years.
President Muhammadu Buhari named Muhammad to the position after the former CJN Walter Onnoghen, was suspended after corruption charges had been brought against him.
