Senegal’s book industry has been riding high on the wave of Mohamed Mbougar Sarr’s 2021 Goncourt prize, according to France24.
The 31-year-old sensation, the report says, is reviving interest in Senegalese writers after he won France’s top literary award earlier this month.He was awarded the prize for his novel La plus secrète mémoire des hommes (The Most Secret Memory of Men).
Announced winner at the Drouant restaurant near the Opéra Garnier in Paris, the Prix Goncourt Prize, first awarded in 1903, is one of the most prestigious literary prizes for Francophone literature valued at €10 but guarantees winners instant literary success in thousands of sales.
