A 40-year-old woman, Mrs Joy Sunday, arrested by the police for conspiracy over the kidnap of her husband in Akwa Ibom State, said on Friday that she partook in the act because her husband starved her of sex and money for too long.
City Round gathered that the kidnappers demanded N10m as ransom and later reduced it to N2m which was paid before the police arrested them while sharing the loot.
The suspect who was among 29 others paraded for various offences including kidnapping, robbery and child theft by the state Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, said she had been subjected to menial jobs to fend for herself and the children since her husband got married to another woman.
She added that when one of her children completed secondary school there was no money for him to further his studies. Read more
Bandits raid Katsina communities, abduct pregnant women, student, others (DailyTrust)
Bandits have invaded low cost project quarters at Dutsen Reme, Bakori LGA of Katsina State and abducted four people.
The development, according to the locals, happened at about 10:00 pm on Friday.
According one Ahmed Ridwan, a resident of Dutsen Reme low cost housing estate, the assailants took advantage of the rainfall and executed their mission unchallenged.
“We were informed through phone calls by villagers around Maska that bandits in large numbers were likely heading to our quarters and we immediately informed the police and military personnel. But when they arrived, the bandits had already abducted four people,” Ridwan said. Read more
Eastern rail line work halted due to insecurity, vandalism – Minister (Guardian)
The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, has said work on Port Harcourt-Maiduguri Eastern rail line was suspended due to insecurity and vandalism of railway properties along the corridor.
Sambo made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos on Saturday.
He spoke while on inspection tour of the project in Port Harcourt, Rivers.
Sambo said China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCEC), the contractor handling the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the project, had complained of attacks on its workers along the Abia State axis. Read more

In the latest edition of #WithChude, the podcast hosted by Chude Jideonwo, the media personality, recalled how she was taken to “three different hospitals” before she regained consciousness after her attempted suicide.
The 32-year-old said: ”In 2017/2018 I had issues. Actually, I and my husband had issues, financial issues because we were in debt and everything. Then, I attempted suicide on June 6, 2018, but I didn’t die.
“Then they carried me to three different hospitals. In the last hospital when I woke up, I was like so I didn’t die? That meant God didn’t want me to die.”
She said the aftermath of her suicide attempt inspired her to venture into comedy “so I can use my story to heal people”.
“Then I told God that I was going to use my story to heal people because I felt like he didn’t allow me to die because he wanted my story to touch people’s lives,” she said.

NASA aborts second bid to launch new Moon rocket (BBC)
The US space agency has had to postpone the launch of its new Artemis I Moon rocket for the second time in a week.
Controllers were unable to stop a hydrogen leak on the vehicle, almost from the start of Saturday’s countdown procedure.
Nasa now has another opportunity to launch the rocket on Monday or Tuesday.
After that the vehicle will have to return to its assembly building for inspection and maintenance, which will mean further delays.
The Space Launch System is the most powerful rocket ever developed by Nasa, and is designed to send astronauts and their equipment back to the lunar surface after an absence of 50 years. Read more

In what appears to be a move away from fast fashion, PrettyLittleThing have launched an app which will allow customers to re-sell their old clothes.
Earlier this week, the fashion giant announced Indiyah Polack – one of this year’s Love Island finalists – as the first PLT Marketplace ambassador.
The 23-year-old will be selling some of her own outfits on the site, and in a statement said the app’s focus on re-wearing and re-selling was “something that’s important to [her]”.
Some have seen it as a positive move from the brand, which might encourage more young people to shop second hand.
But there has been a backlash, and many have accused PLT of “greenwashing” – marketing designed to make customers believe your company is doing more to protect the environment than it really is. Read more

The song, which contains a sample of a song by Florence + the Machine, features Kendrick, 35, and actress Taylour Paige, 31, as they engage in a vicious, expletive-laden argument.

Rosaldo said her husband is recovering after undergoing “a long and complicated surgery” on Tuesday.
“Yesterday was a very long and emotional day, but thanks to your countless demonstrations of affection, messages, good wishes, blessings, prayers and the light you sent us, the surgery was a success,” Rosaldo wrote in Spanish.

Tottenham maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they beat Fulham with goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Kane.
A late strike from Fulham’s star man Alexander Mitrovic made for a nervy final 10 minutes as Marco Silva’s side suffered a second loss of the season.
Spurs threatened to score virtually every time they came forward and had ample opportunity to extend their lead further, firing off 23 shots, 10 of which were on target.

U-19 volleyball: Cameroon beat Nigeria in opening match (Punch)
Cameroon Under -19 Girls Volleyball team on Friday beat Nigeria 3-1 in the opening match of the 2022 U-19 African Nations Volleyball Championship.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the match, played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, saw Nigeria team manage to win only the first set by 29-27.
They were unable to win the remaining sets because the Cameroonian girls defended their supremacy in the game.
Nigerian girls lost the second set 20-25, lost the third set 14- 25 and finally lost the fourth set by 20-25. Read more
