Sexagenarian pleads guilty to stealing student’s laptop, phone (Nation)
A 63-year-old tailor, Gbenga Oyeneye, on Monday, at a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, pleaded guilty to stealing a student’s bag containing his laptop, phone and ATM card, all valued at N140,000.
Following the sexagenarian’s guilty plea, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluwatoyin Oghere, adjourned to Nov. 27, the review of the facts of the case and sentencing.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oyeneye, who resides at Shomolu, Lagos, was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and breach of peace. Read more
N33bn fraud: Court remands Mompha in prison custody (DailyTrust)
Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court, Lagos on Monday ordered that alleged internet fraudster, Ismaila Mustapha, aka Mompha be kept in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services. The Court ordered that Mompha be kept behind bars after he pleaded not guilty to a 14-count charge of laundering N33 billion. The court had also fixed Friday, November 29 for the hearing of the defendant bail application. Read more
N33b ‘fraud’: CBN Director to testify against Mompha (Nation)
A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday remanded a suspected money launderer, Ismaila Mustapha, also known as Mompha, following his arraignment for alleged N33billion fraud.
Mompha pleaded not guilty to a 14 counts of money laundering, unauthorised forex trade and failure to comply with the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
The charge was filed against the internet celebrity and the second defendant, Islamob Global Investments Ltd, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Court remands prophet over alleged defilement of 14-year-old girl (Vanguard)
An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos state, on Monday, remanded a 25-year-old prophet, Adebowale Obaloluwa, in police custody over alleged defilement of a 14-year-old girl.
The defendant, who claimed to be a prophet and interpreter of tongues at a branch of Cherubim and Seraphim church, is facing a charge of defilement.
His plea was, however, not taken by the court. Read more

Woman in court for allegedly selling day-old baby N300,000 (Vanguard).
A 34-year-old woman, Chineye Nwakwo, on Monday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly selling her one-day-old female baby for N300, 000.
The alleged buyer, Happiness Bini, 49, who was arraigned alongside the defendant, was charged with unlawful adoption of baby.
The duo, whose residential addresses were not given, are facing a three-count-charge of conspiracy, child trafficking and unlawful adoption. Read more
Investment inflows into Nigeria dropped by $460m in Q3 – NBS (Punch)
The National Bureau of Statistics on Monday said the investment inflows into Nigeria declined by $460m from $5.82bn in the second quarter of this year to $5.36bn in the third quarter.
The NBS said this in its Capital Importation Report which was released on Monday.
The report revealed that the third quarter inflow of $5.36bn represents a decrease of 7.78 per cent when compared to the second-quarter figure of $5.82bn. Read more
Angry residents burn town hall as 8 die in militia attack (Punch)
Angry residents set fire to the town hall in DR Congo’s volatile city of Beni on Monday after eight people were killed in a suspected attack by a notorious militia.
Army spokesman Colonel Mak Hazukai confirmed the latest casualties in the city, near the Ugandan border, telling AFP that “the enemy entered the Boikene quarter and killed eight civilians.”
Incensed locals then partly burnt the town hall and then moved towards the camp of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) on the outskirts of Beni, an AFP reporter saw. Read more
Climate change: Greenhouse gas concentrations again break records (BBC)
Atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases once again reached new highs in 2018.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) says the increase in CO2 was just above the average rise recorded over the last decade.

A beautiful 17th-century convent in the Tuscan Hills has been forced to close down after a 40-year-old nun praised for her ‘incredible energy’ fell in love with a local man.
The Convent of the Cappuccini Fathers in Sansepolcro has been closed ‘definitively,’ according to the website.
The 40-year-old nun left the convent, meaning only an 80-year-old and two novices remained, as reported by The Daily Mail. Read more
