Siblings jailed for damaging widow’s shop over witchcraft allegation (Punch)
An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court, Ado Ekiti District, has sentenced two siblings, Sunday Arowosoki, 25, and Gbolaga Arowosoki, 23, to 30 months imprisonment (15 months each) for assault and malicious damage.
They were found guilty of mobilising some family members to attack their brother’s widow with dangerous weapons and vandalising her shop following their witchcraft allegation against the woman.
The charge stated that the defendants conspired at 10 a.m. on April 17, 2022 at Ayegunle Ekiti in Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State to “commit felony, assault and malicious damage, unlawfully on the widow of their late brother, Mrs. Rachael Arowosoki”. Read more
Emefiele sues DSS, court to rule on rights enforcement suit July 13 (Channels)
The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele on Tuesday approached the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, challenging his detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).
In his originating motion on notice, Emefiele is praying for the court to enforce his right to liberty and freedom of movement, as there is no basis for his continuous detention.
However, the Attorney General of the Federation as well as the DSS have insisted that the detention of the suspended CBN Governor is lawful. Read more
PEPC: Atiku, PDP end case presentation Thursday (Nation)
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the last presidential election, Atiku Abubakar have hinted at the plan to conclude the presentation of their case on Thursday before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).
The leader of their legal team, Chris Uche (SAN) disclosed this at the resumed hearing in their petition on Tuesday.
Although the petitioners had, during the preliminary hearing in the case, indicated their intention to call 100 witnesses, they called 25 as of June 19. Read more
Youths seek Sanwo-Olu’s intervention on abandoned projects (Punch)
Youths under the auspices of the Igbogbo Youth Coalition have complained over the hardship induced by abandoned road projects and infrastructures in the Igbogbo-Bayeku Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
The President of the group, Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa, while complaining over the poor state of infrastructure in the local government area, said houses were demolished to pave the way for the construction of roads that had been abandoned.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Ogunmuyiwa, sought the intervention of the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to ameliorate the sufferings of residents in the local government area. Read more
APM Terminals receives largest container vessel to berth in Apapa (Tribune)
APM Terminals Apapa at the weekend received the largest container ship to ever call at the Lagos Port Complex Apapa to date.
The Singapore-flagged Kota Cantik, operated and managed by Pacific International Lines (PIL), is a 6,606 TEU container ship with a draught of 11.6 metres, length overall (LOA) of 300 metres and beam of 40 metres.
The historic berthing of the vessel was witnessed by officials of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), PIL and APM Terminals Apapa. Read more

A 57-year-old woman, Mrs. Jamiu Sikirat, has been recovered dead after falling into a well while fetching water in Ilọrin, Kwara State capital.
The tragic incident occurred around 6:42 pm on Monday.

Kevin Spacey thriller ‘‘Peter Five Eight’’ lands at SPI International (THR)
Kevin Spacey’s thriller Peter Five Eight has been picked up for
multiple territories by SPI International, a division of Canal+/Studio Canal.
The film, which also stars Rebecca De Mornay and Jet Jandreau, will receive a U.S. release in August as Spacey looks to return to the big screen, the film’s producers tell THR. It’s understood that SPI International, which operates 62 TV channels and digital platforms across six continents, including Filmbox+, has yet to finalize international rollout details.
Global territories picked up for Peter Five Eight include the U.K., Africa, Eastern Europe, Israel, Latin America, Spain, Portugal, Scandinavia, Middle East and Russia/CIS. The U.S. release in August will be timed to follow the expected conclusion of Spacey’s upcoming trial in the U.K. for alleged sexual offenses, which will get underway on June 28 and is scheduled to last 4 weeks. Trevor Noah, who left as host of “The Daily Show” in late 2022, is bringing his comedic voice to an original Spotify weekly podcast set to debut later this year.
The weekly podcast will blend Noah’s “signature humor and razor-sharp wit with his global perspective to deliver a unique take on the hottest and most captivating topics of the moment,” according to Spotify. The series (whose name is TBD) will also feature in-depth interviews between Noah and “some of the most influential and interesting figures around the world,” the company said.
While Noah’s podcast will be a “Spotify original,” it will not be exclusive to the streamer: The show will be available to listen to across numerous platforms. By contrast, Spotify has secured exclusive distribution for shows from several popular podcasters, including Joe Rogan, Alex Cooper, Emma Chamberlain and Dax Shepard. Read more

Internet Money rapper Rot Ken has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 24-year-old man in Augusta, Georgia.
According to a report from The Augusta Press published on Sunday (June 18), the rapper and an accomplice allegedly shot two men in April, leaving one man dead and the other injured.
The incident reportedly occurred in “broad daylight,” with the shooters jumping out of a car and shooting into the victims’ vehicle, killing a passenger named Usaini Yunusa. The driver, Kobe Burns, was able to drive away – but he was reportedly drunk and crashed into some trees when he sped away. He was taken to the hospital with injuries and later faced DUI charges. Chemotherapy drug shortages leave medical experts scrambling (UPI)
Unprecedented shortages of key cancer drugs in the United States could disrupt treatment for tens of thousands of patients with various forms of the disease in coming months, experts told UPI.
With more than 10 drugs used for chemotherapy in treating cancer among the dozens considered to be in short supply by the Food and Drug Administration, hospitals have been forced to find new suppliers or adjust patient doses to limit disruptions in life-saving care, the experts said.
“Current shortages of cancer drugs are impacting clinical practice for all health systems across the United States,” Jeffrey Pilz, assistant director of pharmacy, medication safety and drug policy for the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center in Columbus, told UPI in an email. Read more
Joe Biden’s son Hunter agrees to plead guilty to federal charges (AlJazeera)
US President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden has agreed to plead guilty on two federal tax charges and seek a separate agreement on a firearm charge in a deal with the Justice Department, Reuters news agency and US media have reported, citing a court document.
In a statement provided to several US news outlets, the younger Biden’s lawyer confirmed on Tuesday that “Hunter will take responsibility for two instances of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments when due pursuant to a plea agreement.”
The lawyer, Christopher Clark, added that a separate firearms charge, “will be subject to a pretrial diversion agreement and will not be the subject of the plea agreement”. A “pretrial diversion” is typically an agreement between defendants and prosecutors that allows rehabilitation instead of prison time. Read more

Napoli boss, Aurelio de Laurentiis has revealed that the club has agreed a two-year deal with striker, Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen’s current deal at Napoli runs out in the summer of 2025, with the Nigerian linked with a host of major clubs such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United. His future at Napoli remains uncertain.

Arsenal have had their second bid for Declan Rice worth £90m rejected by West Ham.
The fee, which would have been a club-record for Arsenal, was understood to be £75m guaranteed plus £15m in add-ons, surpassing the £72m paid to Lille for Nicolas Pepe in 2019.
Arsenal proposed to pay the initial fee over four years and the add-ons, if successfully met, over five years. Read more

French investigators raid Paris Olympic organisers offices in corruption probe (ITV)
The headquarters of the Paris 2024 Olympics has been searched by police in a suspected corruption probe.
The Paris organising committee said in a statement a search was underway at their headquarters in the suburb of Saint-Denis, and that “Paris 2024 is cooperating with the investigators to facilitate their investigations.”
Paris becomes the third straight Summer Games organiser implicated in a corruption probe. Read more
Draymond Green declines player option, to become free agent (ABC)
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is declining his $27.6 million player option and will enter unrestricted free agency, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday.
“We will continue to talk to Golden State and explore all options,” Paul told ESPN.
It was expected Green would opt out; now he can talk with the Warriors as well as explore sign-and-trades and free agency. Read more
