Sokoto: Gunmen ambush troops convoy, kill 4 (Tribune)
Gunmen suspected to be armed bandits have on Saturday reportedly laid ambushed troops of the Nigeria Army personnel in Gudu local government area border Community of Sokoto State, killing four soldiers in the process.
The Sole Administrator of the council, Hon Umar MaiKano Balle disclosed this while speaking with our correspondent in a telephone conversation.
Balle, who was among those ambushed by the bandits escaped the assault by the whiskers, after operatives engaged in gun duel with the terrorists during the attack. Read more

Court extends remand order on suspected drug lord, ‘Temo’(Channels)
The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has granted permission to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to further remand the alleged drug lord, Sulaimon Jimoh, popularly known as “Olowo Idi Ogede”, for another 14 days.
Justice Akintayo Aluko extended the remand order of the alleged drug lord, who is also known as Temo, on Friday, after hearing an exparte motion filed and argued by the legal officer in charge of the Lagos command of the agency.
In urging the court for the extension of remand, the NDLEA lawyer told the court that the motion was brought pursuant to Sections 6 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), Section 296 (1)(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, Order 26 Rules 8 of the Federal High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2009 and under court’s inherent jurisdiction. Lagos Blue Line raises daily trips to 72 (Sun)
The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line will from today, Monday, August 12, 2024, upscale the number of trips from 54 to 72 per day. The current schedule for Sunday operations remains unchanged.
Managing director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, announced over the weekend that Blue Line train riders would now travel between Marina and Mile 2 in just about 18 minutes from the previous travel time of 25 minutes.
The implication is that there would be a train every 18 minutes both ways, thus allowing commuters to plan their trips. Read more

Woman arraigned for ticket forgery, $2,500 fraud (Punch)
A 41-year-old woman, Adenike Salami, was arraigned on Friday before the Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court in Lagos State on charges of forging an airline ticket and fraudulently obtaining $2,500.
Salami, who appeared before Magistrate Waliu Salami, is facing three counts of conspiracy, fraud, and forgery, brought against her by the police.
The prosecutor informed the court that the defendant, along with others who are still at large, conspired to commit the alleged offences. Read more

A federal lawmaker from Kano State, Rep. Alhassan Doguwa, has vowed to deliver the state to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Doguwa said this in Abuja on Sunday while responding to a claim by another lawmaker, Rep. Abdulmumini Jibrin, that he posed a threat to the electoral fortunes of the APC in Kano State.
Jibrin had also said that Doguwa was a political liability to his party.
Doguwa said that he would ensure successes for the APC in the 2027 general elections, adding that he should be allowed to serve as the Directors-General (DG) of the party’s 2027 campaigns in the state. Read more

At least 15 people have been injured in a Ukrainian drone and missile attack on Russia’s Kursk region, Moscow has claimed.

An 89-year-old woman was beaten and bound up by masked burglars who stole her wedding ring from her finger.
The pensioner told Canterbury Crown Court how she was left in a ‘state of panic’ after Anthony Foord, 45, and Amie Lynn, 38, broke into her home in Dymchurch, Kent, at around 4am on April 14.

Hezbollah launched 30 rockets from Lebanon into northern Israel early Monday, though no casualties were reported, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed.
“Following sirens that sounded a short while ago in northern Israel, approximately 30 projectiles were identified crossing from Lebanon toward the area of Kabri, a number of which fell in open areas,” an IDF spokesman said. “No injuries were reported.”
