In a resplendent celebration of its third anniversary, Naija Times, a rising star in the world of independent online journalism, has secured the distinguished presence of Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka. The event, scheduled for October 19, 2023, will take place at the prestigious Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
Soyinka’s acceptance of the invitation is being perceived as a resounding endorsement of Naija Times’ three-year journey, where it has evolved into a prominent and highly-respected online newspaper, according to a statement by Udo Prince Toby, the acting editor.
The professor, known for his contributions to comparative literature and civil rights activism, will deliver a goodwill message, echoing the event’s theme – “Journalism in the service of society.”
Dr. Reuben Abati, a former presidential spokesman and one of Soyinka’s former students, will take the stage as the keynote speaker. Abati, a renowned newspaper columnist and public intellectual, is also the lead anchor of ‘The Morning Show’ on Arise News. His speech will delve into the critical role of journalism in serving society, aligning with Naija Times’ core slogan.
Adding to the grandeur of the evening is the launch of Naija Times’ inaugural publication titled “For a Better Society: A compilation of Editorials published in Naija Times from September 2020 to July 2023.” The book’s review will be conducted by Azu Ishiekwene, Editor-in-Chief of Leadership newspaper, who is widely recognized for his contributions to Nigerian literature.
Ehi Braimah, Publisher/Editor in Chief of Naija Times, expressed the book’s significance, noting it will be a valuable resource for a broad spectrum of professionals and individuals, including media practitioners, political leaders, scholars, and public policy analysts, among others.
The event’s distinguished guests include Mr. John Momoh, Chairman/CEO of Channels Media Group, who will serve as the chairman. Furthermore, His Excellency Aremo Segun Osoba, the former Governor of Ogun State and a stalwart in Nigerian journalism, will assume the role of Father of the Day.
