As SystemSpecs continues to lead national discourse and initiatives aimed at empowering Nigerian children through technology awareness, the company is pleased to announce the opening of submissions for its 6th Annual Children’s Day Essay Competition (CDEC), themed โ€œHow I Would Use Technology to Mobilize My Peers for a Greater Nigeriaโ€.

Through this yearโ€™s essay, students are challenged to explore how technology can position them as active change agents, recognizing the far-reaching impact of their ideas on community development, economic growth, and governance. The CDEC is a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative that seamlessly integrates technology, education, and leadership, equipping young minds with the skills and vision needed to shape Nigeriaโ€™s future. The competition portal is now open, inviting young minds to craft bold, original, innovative, and actionable ideas that harness the power of technology to inspire their peers, drive social change, and shape Nigeriaโ€™s future.

Reflecting on the vision for CDEC, Bukola Adeboye, Executive Director, Corporate Services, stated, โ€œNigerian children represent the dynamic force that will steer the country towards a future defined by innovation, inclusivity, and accountable leadership. By challenging them to reimagine the role of technology in influencing their peers, we are not only cultivating creativity and critical thinking but also instilling a sense of duty to drive tangible social progress.โ€ She further added, โ€œWe believe parents, teachers, and school administrators play a key role in shaping how young Nigerians engage with important societal issues. By actively discussing ideas with them, and encouraging independent thought, they can help nurture their insights into real-world solutions that will drive positive change, paving the way for a nation built on the pillars of social harmony and economic growth.

The competition is designed to stimulate the intellectual curiosity of Nigeriaโ€™s youth, urging them to view technology not merely as a tool for entertainment but as a powerful catalyst for much needed social change. When children and adolescents recognize their capacity to lead, they begin to understand that their ideas can bridge long-standing developmental gaps. In a nation where many communities still contend with infrastructural deficits and educational inequities among other prevailing challenges, such creative expressions are not only refreshing but essential. They signal a readiness among young Nigerians to redefine governance and national progress by embracing the transformative potential of technology in creating a new Nigeria.

Recognizing the profound impact of global trends on 21st-century skills, SystemSpecs, through CDEC, is reinforcing the belief that young people are not just passive observers but active contributors to nation-building.  As technology reshapes industries and redefines traditional models of work and learning, the need for educational frameworks that foster critical thinking, and innovation has never been greater. In Nigeria, deliberate investments in digital literacy and transformative education are essential to cultivating a generation of agile problem-solvers. Such investments are crucial in preparing students for careers that demand rapid adaptation and lifelong learning in an era where globalization and technology are deeply interwovenโ€”and SystemSpecs remains committed to leading this charge.

Recent research underscores the importance of shifting from traditional, rote-based learning to methods that promote innovative, critical thinking. With the digital revolution redefining how information is accessed, analyzed, and communicated, it is imperative that our education system equips students with the skills required for the modern world. As Nigeria accelerates towards a future marked by rapid technological advancement and global interconnectedness, initiatives like this essay competition provide an invaluable platform for students to develop and demonstrate new capabilities. They also highlight the crucial interplay between technology and social responsibility – a relationship that, when harnessed correctly, can lead to a more equitable and prosperous nation.

The CDEC submission portal is now live and will accept entries until April 11th, 2025. Primary and secondary school students (9 โ€“16) from across Nigeria are encouraged to submit essays that reflect their personal vision and innovative approach to using technology for social good. The winning entries – selected for their originality, feasibility, clarity – will be celebrated on Childrenโ€™s Day, May 27, 2025.
