Suicide bomber killed in failed attempt on Abuja military cantonment (Punch)

A suspected suicide bomber was killed on Monday in an attempted infiltration into the Mogadishu Cantonment (popularly known as Abacha Barracks) in Abuja, after an Improvised Explosive Device he was carrying detonated.

According to military sources, the incident occurred around 2:14 p.m. beneath the pedestrian bridge near the cantonment, close to a checkpoint where passengers are often dropped off before taking tricycles into the barracks.

One of the source said the suspect alighted from a Volkswagen Golf vehicle and attempted to move toward the checkpoint.

The source noted that his suspicious movements drew the attention of a military police officer on duty, who halted him and requested he step back for identification. Read more

Co-wife dispute turns deadly as woman stabs rival to death (Guardian)

A 23-year-old housewife, Rabi’a Labaran, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her senior co-wife, Zainab Lawal, 30, to death in Daura Local Council of Katsina State.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Saturday night, May 24, was reportedly triggered by a misunderstanding between the two women. Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued yesterday. He disclosed that the deceased was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Daura, where she was pronounced dead by the medical doctor on duty.

“A tragic incident occurred behind Dadi Primary School, Sabon Gari Area of Daura town, Daura Council, when a domestic dispute between co-wives was suspected to have escalated into a fatal confrontation. Read more 

Tinubu intervenes in FCT ground rent saga, grants defaulters 14-day waiver (Nation)

President Bola Tinubu has intervened in the ongoing crackdown on defaulters of ground rent payment on landed properties in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Officials of the FCT Administration Monday commenced enforcement on the 4,794 properties revoked for non-payment of Ground Rent, from 10 to 43 years.

Nigeria targets $7m daily revenue from fertiliser export (Leadership)

The federal government is looking to earn a daily revenue of $6.5 to $7 million from fertiliser exports as part of a broader strategy to boost non-oil foreign income and strengthen Nigeria’s blue economy.

In particular, the Yentob 1975 Omnibus feature, Cracked Actor, showed David Bowie opening up to him in the back of a limousine at an “intensely creative time”, the filmmaker later recalled. Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was diagnosed with labyrinthitis Monday after suffering from vertigo, hospital officials said.

The 79-year-old leftist leader has already returned to the country’s presidential residence, where he is resting.

The Sirio-Libanes Hospital said in a statement that Lula underwent imaging and blood tests, and its results came within normal limits. Labyrinthitis is an inflammation of the labyrinth in the inner ear, which is responsible for hearing and balance. Read more
